Wouldn't recommend! Labs never worked, made many grading mistakes, some serious. I didn't get a whole lot out of his classes and I got an A in both. Kind of sucks when you get an A and don't feel like you've accomplished anything. Had him for more classes than I would have liked. Steer clear if possible! CST160 165

Comment:

This Professor is bar far the worst professor I've ever had in WCC. First he takes literally weeks to email you back so don't bother emailing him for help. He dose whatever he feels like he will switch assignments and notify you last minute. Dose not follow his syllabus dose what ever he feels. Take my word for it and other's AVOID AT ALL COST.

Terrible professor. I've only had one that was worse here (and I'm working on my second degree at WCC). Doesn't answer emails adequately or in a timely manner (it's an online class) and he also doesn't specify what needs to be submitted for homework.

Hands down worst professor I have ever had, messed up blackboard grading assigned my work to another student and i was dropped from the class 3 weeks already in, impossible to contact him as he leaves no contact info i had to go to student center to get his phone and office hours.

One word: frustrating. DOES NOT reply to emails in a timely manner. Neglected to give me login information for the required labs/Cisco site. Had about 5 assignments due and could not do ANY until 2 hours before they were due - even though I emailed him 3 days prior AND called him numerously - all during the week! 0/10

Today is the last day of the semester and I just finished the CNT 206/CNT 216 classes with John. John doesn't really have control over the course, as it is a Cisco course and they control the material, and the changes to the material, but he helped a ton. He is always down to earth and fun, he tries making lectures as enjoyable as possible.

John does not understand the material and is not prepared in many other way. His labs are a joke How did this guy get hired to teach these classes 206216 He should stick with BASIC networking. He is just terrible. I got a good grade thanks to the internet not John.

John rates near the bottom of the list of WCC instructors I've had. Just the bare minimum of preparation on his part, it's like he's just showing up to get a paycheck. This class was so bad it wasn't even half-assed, it was more like quarter-assed. The class could be good, but avoid John if you can.

John appears friendly, but he's not interested in teaching well. Material is outdated & filled with errors. Tests measure trivia, not knowledge. He has no interest in improving the material. Often unprepared, doesn't answer questions well (if at all), and teaching style is condescending & patronizing. Easy class, but not a good use of my time.

John is very approachable. He doesn't talk down to you or make you feel dumb when you ask questions. As a female student in a male-dominated field, I worry about not being taken seriously but John was very fair and treated everyone with the same respect. He was likeable and funny at times. Also, he brought brownies, which was nice.

He teaches by reading the course slides to the class and doesn't add much value. A couple of times he gave out the wrong answer to a question. He had trouble setting up the lab for an exam, like he didn't know how. He forgets things and doesn't seem all "there".

The lab manual was mandatory, the labs were checked as part of your grade; I mention that because previous communication between he and I left me to believe that it was all online and the books were optional. The command guide wasn't used at all. He did a great job with this class. If you do the labs, exercises, and ask questions, you'll succeed.

Pretty easygoing & EXTREMELY fair. Often went above & beyond in giving students the benefit of the doubt & second chances. I found him very responsive and quite thorough. Also incorporated critical thinking into the lessons, (vs. spoon-feeding) which helped a great deal with memory recall.

His teaching methods leave a lot to be desired. He seems clueless as to the material and only perked up during the chapters covering things he was personally interested in. When asked a question during lab portion of class he just stared at me and eventually just wandered off.

John comes in two versions. The first version of John comes during the two chapters that cover networking topics and is very knowledgeable and gives an excellent lecture. The second, for the rest of the semester, reads the authors slides while adding nothing, fails to show up for class, and often cannot stay awake during his lectures.

John has a pretty bland personality, although he seems to have good knowledge of the material, if you can get it out of him. The syllabus states the lab manual is a required purchase, but you can just print them out. He reads strictly out of the curriculum and doesn't add anything to the material. On some days, he doesn't seem to be all "there".

I don't think this class is a good fit for him. Reads straight from the publisher's powerpoints, no value added whatsoever.
