He is not that bad; however, most of the time if you do not understand something you have to work on your own.

I asked him questions all the time and he never got mad at me. He just used to be in the military and talks loudly. Anyways, there is a quiz every lab day and lec day. There is a lot of hw. He gives a lot of extra credit, his quizzes are open note, final open note, he gives you a C if you have 65% and above. He makes it very easy to pass the class.

Good teacher. Overall, he knows the subject well and gives more than necessary extra credit on literally every assignment. The people complaining are likely apathetic students anyways. Oh well, they're in for a shock when they transfer. This is community college, kids; if this is tough, you're screwed. I bet half of you think you're premed. LOL

Worst teacher I have ever had. He never gives HW or quizzes back until AFTER the test. Textbook doesn't cover everything he assigns. Study guides he gives, but are useless. TEST, POST LAB/HW problems are much harder than the examples you are "taught" in class. Doesn't answer questions well, lectures very hard to follow, tedious work, google > him.

Horrible teacher. A lot of homework. quizzes in every lec and lab. He's a jerk when it comes to asking questions, makes you feel stupid for asking. Only good thing was open note quizzes, but test aren't.unless you want to work hard and teach yourself the material don't take his class

Only good thin about this teacher is that you can use your notes and book on quizzes and sometimes open discussion. Cant use notes/book on exams. Can use notes/book on final tho. Gives you an opportunity to retake ONE exam (it might hurt you or help you). Doesnt answer questions. No credit for late homewrk. Be prepared to teach yourself material.

The best part of this class is the grading system. Partial credit is your friend; it's an easy A if you do the work. He's impatient w/ questions, so expect that and ask anyway. His lectures/study guides are not enough to complete the HW sometimes, so be prepared to use other resources and teach yourself a few things. And, read the book. Good luck.

Read the book & do the homework to get an A, but don't expect help. He is not happy to answer, makes you feel inept & does not seem interested in teaching anymore. Tests can be misleading & answer key may be wrong. He does play jazz in lab, but doesn't seem to want you to stick around the entire period. Be prepared to do work without his help.

Doesn't explain things. Goes too fast. Test & quizzes are hard. Homework is ok. Doesn't tell you what to study. Get's mad at students when asking for help. HOWEVER, He is one of the funniest professors I had. So That I give him credit for...

It's true that he doesn't explain things very well but if you read the book and complete all of the assignments, it's not hard to get an A in his class because he gives plenty of extra credit. He's really NOT happy with answering questions. A lot of quizzes are open book/open notes as well as the final. Not very exciting but not too hard either.

This professor is impossible to follow along with. I was very disappointed. I went in for help and he totally made a fool of me. He claims you only need basic algebra skills DON'T BELIEVE HIM. He explains NOTHING. If you take this class you must read the book first to even comprehend. Lastly his lectures are useless when it comes to homework.

Awesome teacher. I used to be intimidated by chemistry and now I enjoy it (and got an A). Those who are saying he is mean--it is because you are asking STUPID QUESTIONS! READ THE BOOK before saying you don't get it. I think this class prepared me well for Chem 400.

My only suggestion if you're taking Nolen, DON'T! He doesn't teach you anything, he rushes through his lectures, he laughs in your face when you ask him a question, and the lab manual he follows is written so poorly it's no wonder half of the students do the experiments wrong. Terrible teacher, avoid him if you can!

Dr. Nolen is not a bad guy, funny sometimes, BUT... when you need help, don't ask, he will just get angry and make you look stupid. READ the textbook and do the problems and you will ace the class. His lectures are very difficult to follow, he rushes through everything and pulls numbers from ... and you get very lost.

During his lectures, you think you understand everything, but when he gives you homework, there's nothing on there that he taught you. Probably about 75% of the class is self taught. Tests are pretty hard. Horrible teacher.

Don't expect Nolen to teach you anything! Just read the book and don't ask him any questions otherwise he'll ridicule you in front of the class. Smart guy but terrible teacher. I think he just enjoys playing Chem Prof. instead of retiring.

I would advise anyone who takes this class to allow a lot of time to read the text and understand the methods. If you understand the text the quiz and tests will be easy. Labs were not hard, but the instruction is not always the clearest. Most quizzes are open notes/book.
