Comment:
Professor Stephan is a hella cool dude. But lowkey it seems like he's watched too much Aaron Sorkin and he kinda acts like politics is a spectator sport. Take it if you need some Poli Sci credit and want to learn a lil bit of US media history. Listen to "Citations Needed" for some deep analysis of the interaction between media & politics

Mark doesn't care about attendance as long as at least 75% of people go to lecture. He gives great lectures and is very clear about the topic. He has three exams and they are all fairly easy, however, they are all of your grade so be sure to study for them. All of his PowerPoints are posted on blackboard as well.

Before I took this class with professor Stephan, I always thought political science 101 would be a bore. However, this ended up being my favorite course this semester and I would without a doubt recommend him to other students. Professor Stephan is helpful, clear, and always willing to hear everyone's point of view!

Amazing professor! Mark is very knowledgeable and you can tell from his lectures. He likes class participation, which is nice because it gets people talking and he makes an effort to know everyone name. Before this class, political science was my least favorite subject but Mark has made this class my #1 favorite this semester. I highly recommend!!

Says attendance is mandatory, but if too few students show up becomes passive aggressive and takes attendance randomly. Unclear lecture, lecture slides are just questions that he may or may not answer during long droning cyclical speeches.

Absolutely amazing instructor and one of the best within the Public Affairs major. Clear, encouraging and clearly passionate about what he teaches. Because he is excited about class material, it energizes the students. He is never mean and thrives on class participation. Don't be afraid to speak up!

Great Professor, very much likes class participation or else class will go slow... he is good at seeing from both points of view and incorporates it into the lecture. He is very helpful if you need help. Nice professor, would take him again.

Great professor. Really big on class participation and relies heavy on the text. He likes to throw in a couple essay assignments, be careful, he is a total grammar enthusiast and will mark you down a half grade if you have too many grammar mistakes (more than 1-2).I would definitely take another class from him, I'm not even into PoliSci.

Helpful is the best way to explain this prof. He helped me understand things that never made sense to me before. I took multiple classes with him and enjoyed them all. I did work hard for the grades I got, but it was worth it.

Took this course a few years ago so maybe he has gotten better. Found his teaching style unclear and his grading very arbitrary. Also, he did not give students time to formulate responses. If you couldn't answer immediately you were at risk of being seen as not having done the reading. Smart guy, mediocre/poor prof.

He is a nice guy. He is nonjudgmental to a fault. He will try to find kernels of truth in the most ridiculous statements and answers from students. He speaks in generalization rather than using current events and the real world. For the student that already listens to NPR and knows political science basics, you might find Stephan didn?t teach you a

Great professor. Keeps his teaching pace in line with the class, so good students who are interested and invested results in excellent teaching. Tip: attendence, with a few comments sprinkled in here and there, goes a long way. Don't make him stand in front of the class and stare and answer out of you.

US Policy: Interesting and relevant class material, but can get a little dull (but what class material doesn't). Very good presentation of material and encourages students to give their input. Grading is tough but fair. Very helpful and responive to his students.

I didn't like him. I found him very boring and his lectures run in circles. I found myself asking other students what he was talking about and they had no clue. Read text in his class even though it probably won't make any sense. He's a fair grader, so make sure to know what he expects on tests and assignments.

He tries not to filter what a student is saying with his own bias, but instead tries to understand where the person is coming from. He lets a student explain themselves without jumping in and assuming he knows what they are trying to say. His class is very well structured.
