Comment:

She's nice and gave out a lot of make up points, but her quizzes and tests are annoying because she gave way too many answers. She said she knew not everyone like Biology but made tests and quizzes extremely complicated. Virtual attendance isn't mandatory but you still have to complete assignments in order to not get dropped from the class.

Comment:

Dr. LaMantia is extremely nice and helpful and she is extremely generous in giving you the points. Originally, Bio 180 is very hard because its Biology but she will break the materials down. Her tests are very hard if you are unprepared. Shes tough but I strongly recommend her. I enjoyed the class

Comment:

I can't say enough about Dr. LaMantia. Going to online classes has not been easy, but she has really made the effort worthwhile. She's been really caring, and checked up on me when I missed a class. Her lectures are great, even the ones that are recorded with no students! Definitely the best teacher I've even had, and lots of way to get credit!

Comment:

I hated biology until I took her class/lab. She gives great lectures that really help you better understand science. She is clear about assignments and exams. The exams are based on her lectures and aren't very hard. She posts grades immediately. You must show up to class every day or you'll fall behind and miss the quizzes given each class.

I had her for Biology Lab and I loved her! She only lectures us a bit but she made criteria so much clear. Quiz every class, but she's awesome and funny! She's also super helpful when you have questions.

Comment:

I took Dr. LaMantia over the summer and it was probably the best course I've taken in college. I was not a fan of biology before this class, but LaMantia made it fun with stories, jokes, and interesting topics. Quiz each class but it's only on the previous lecture and she sometimes adds extra credit. She drops one midterm as well. Lab is easy.

I only had LaManita for lab but I wish I had her for lecture too because the only things I learned in biology came from her class. From day one you know exactly how you'll be graded (quizzes based off the lab manual/lab itself), and she makes the class interesting, engaging, and fun. You can tell she cares about her students and loves the material!

There are 4 exams.. NOT cumulative, and the professor gives a study guide and practice tests for each that are really useful. Take good notes because the exams are based on lecture.. the text is good but not essential. TA'ed the class last semester and the professor gave 80% of the class an A or B.. only 3 C's and an F. Exams are fair but difficult

LaMantia is a nice professor but I feel that she's all over the place. 3 exams + 1 cumulative exam. Exams have about 80 hard multiple choice questions with a page of free response. Lab quiz every lab. Cumulative lab final at the end. If you want a class that's way harder than it should be and want to ruin your GPA - then this class is for you.

QUIZ EVERY CLASS. If you have bad attendance dont take her. Quiz for lecture and lab. Super easy grader on work. Quizzes are super easy as long as you went to the class. Test are very easy if you do the study guide provided on canvas.

Comment:

I hate biology but she is amazing! A a very caring professor who likes to see her students succeed. She is very approachable and does not rush in lectures. Labs are pretty normal but make sure you take her for lab too because she makes it easier. You need to STUDY for this class. Nothing crazy, but make sure you really understand the material.

Comment:

Dr. Lamantia is a caring, kind, and funny professor. Her exams are pretty straight forward, just record the lectures and ask her anything you're unsure on and there's no reason why you can't get an A. Her grading criteria is very clear and extremely generous, as she even curves! I wish she was teaching Bio185 too.

Professor LaMantia is so awesome!! She truly cares about her students and works hard to help them understand the material. I took her over the summer and there was a short quiz before each lecture (extra credit offered). Didn't read the book at all, just took notes on her lectures, studied that, and got an A on all 4 tests. Really nice and funny:)

Professor LaMantia is one of the best professors I have ever had! She is so sweet and always makes the learning environment more enjoyable. I looked forward to going to both lab and lecture with her because her energy and passion for Biology made class so interesting. I would highly recommend her to anyone taking this class.

Comment:

She is the cutest lab instructor ever! It's clear she is very passionate about biology and always has a fun time discussing the labs with us. She is so energetic and funny, making the 3 hour lab so much more interesting, she also has many chances for extra credit! Do the experiments & answer the questions with your group and you should be fine :)

This class is SO MUCH easier than anat/physio. Medical Majors pay attention, info will be brought up again in your classes (anat,physio,micro). Mini-quizzes beginning of lec/lab. Very enthusiastic, caring and sweet! Does 1-1 help for those who need it. If she sees you tried in the lab, you'll get the points. Easy A if you put in some time aside.

Comment:

I had LaMantia for lab and a different teacher for lecture. Lab was easy, we did the lab reports in class and went over most of it at the end. Quizzes at the beginning of lab are open notes and straight from the lab manual. She gives some extra credit too so my lab ended up really helping my overall grade. She really helped me understand biology.

Comment:

Dr LaMantia is probably one of the best profs I've ever had. She explains concepts with stories and analogies, making things much simpler. This course really prepared me for UCI classes and I even use her notes for my classes now. Lab points were a plus as you get points for being there and the quizzes are open notes. Grading scale is generous!

If you are a bio major AND have a strong background in biology & chemistry then great. If not, her class could destroy your chances of getting into your major. Her exams require you to KNOW the concepts head on and exactly how everything functions, not fairly geared to students with little exp. with biology. She should teach advance or upper bio.
