His accent was impossible to understand, as well as his handwriting. Had to learn all material for this class on my own.

Worst lecturer by far that I have ever had at UMD. This class is not the hardest but you will have to take all your own notes because you can not understand him or read his notes on the board. Makes this class much more stressful. Avoid him at all costs

Worst professor I have ever had at the University of Maryland- does not care about his students at all. I went to office hours and he would interrupt or not listen to me at all. He also gives no partial credit at all so avoid the honors section at all cost because there is no TA.

Terrible teacher. Shows complete contempt for his students, never explains anything. Expect to teach yourself everything.

I thought he was very good. He does lecture at a pretty fast pace, but he was willing to slow down if we had questions. Overall very suppportive and well-prepared in his lectures.

Comment:
he has no interest in his students, and his lectures are completely pointless. you will have to learn everything by yourself. BUT he does throw in some extra credit points, and his tests, hw, and quizzes are fair (more generous than the other teachers). He is not a good teacher, but you are more likely to get a good grade with him than anyone else

Comment:
It took some effort to understand the way he structured his lectures. However, once I figured it out, the lectures were much more productive. He has a thick accent. He takes the stuff seriously, but is approachable and helpful, though some people in my class didn't think so. He's about average as professors go.

Read below comments and click "go back" ASAP. The idea that you want to take his class is absolutely bullet-proof proven (and I'm not joking). His character itself makes him not a good instructor.

Comment:
Jakobson is well schooled in mathematics, and everything he brings to the University in research is well respected. His teaching, however, seriously lacks. He is extremely unforgiving when it comes to grading, and is almost unapproachable outside class for help. I was thrown out of his office merely for asking clarification on a homework problem

Comment:
Those that did well had a firm grasp on what was being taught, while those that did poorly were ill prepared and new to the material. This was reflected in the grading. Jakobson does little to help the latter, and, with two exams, leaves little room for missteps. Make sure to get to work right away to save yourself the pain later.

Jakobson is the worst professor I've ever had. He speaks and writes unclearly, and erases the board too quickly. He won't always explain things, "I assigned you X problems, you should know this." He blames you for not understanding things. He does not help students when they come to him. He gives extra credit for correcting him. (0.166% per class)

Strong accent, bad teacher, unfriendly guy... not many good things going for him. he teaches by example though, so as long as you goto class you'll learn how to get by(although his lectures are extremely boring). also, dont expect any pizza parties instead of tests/quizes.

He can put you to sleep during lectures and his notes on the board are just all over the place (very unorganized). He also seems like a very unfriendly guy. That being said, his exams are very straight forward and straight from the hw.

The man definitely knows the material, but he's just flat out mean at times. He gave us an exam the last week of class (2nd of the semester) as well as a final. Weekly homework assignments that are almost undoable as well as giving few A's. You'll learn the material, but don't expect to make friends with him.

Was very good at teaching Differential Equations. Explains complex things very well. Exams were similar to homework.
