No need to go to class, the lecture are long and boring, the homework and lab questions are a lot harder than the actual test. Homework is do online before each class. If you understand the basics of force/physics, it's pretty easy.

I have had Madsen for Statics & Dynamics in addition to Mechanics of Materials. Lectures focus on reviewing concepts/formulas and then working example problems. Beware: if students do not come to class with questions he will give you a quiz or pick out a challenging problem to work. He will move down each row and calls on people. Overall he's good!

Get the solution manual. Formatting takes the most time. You bairly learn from completing assignments real big time waster... Better to finish assignments and work similar homework problems and learn...

Madsen knows the material very well. He spends most of the class talking in depth about trivial things. Class is guided by the questions the students ask, so try to keep up. He will call students out. Exams aren't difficult; grades easy. Rework the old ones and do the homework. Copying chegg all semester will only hurt you so do the work.

I have taken Dr. Madsen for two courses now (MECH 2110 and MECH 3130). I enjoyed having him so much that I even signed up for him for a third time (MECH 3140). He's a tough professor, but without a doubt, if you want to be a good engineer and you value learning take his classes! He's extremely fair, and gives entertaining and interesting lectures

Brilliant and engaging professor. Will reciprocate any students effort for help to understand the material. The only irritation besides the material itself is the required homework format; requiring several different computer softwares and a great deal of time just for formatting.

Dr. Madsen is a fantastic professor. He wants you to succeed as a student and engineer. However, his class is not all easy. Homework due every class and labs to reinforce understanding of the homework. Tests were difficult but I got used to them. Overall, a difficult class, but very important and helpful to your understanding of engineering.

Dr. Madsen is easily the best professor I've had at AU. Covers material several times working plenty of examples in different ways. Very good at getting class participating in working examples. Sums up all testable topics before each test nicely, working through easy and difficult examples. Rework homeworks to get an A on the test.

This is one of the best professors at Auburn. He will make sure you learn the material, but you need to put in the work. Expect a tough class, but you will be thankful for it after.

Best prof. I've ever had. Clicker quizzes and homework due every class. Tests are similar to homework. Partial credit is generous. May sound ridiculous, but it is very possible to get over 100% overall. Study and do homework in a group, don't copy.Put in a lot of time. I was fretting the class a lot at first, but once you "get it" it becomes easy.

Dr. Madsen was a great professor. Be prepared to work hard and spend a lot of time studying, but when you leave the class you will be a better student and you will be able to "Think like an engineer". Go to his office. He was the most helpful in there. He really does want you to succeed.

Madsen is one of the best, if not THE best professor at Auburn. He is incredibly intelligent, loves the curriculum, and genuinely wants to help students. Go to class, pay attention, and UNDERSTAND THE HOMEWORK (even if you copy it off Chegg). He gives you all his old tests too, which is AWESOME! I would definitely recommend him!

Madsen is my favorite professor I've ever had in college. His class requires a lot of work but all ME classes do, so I'm not holding that against him. HE WILL MAKE YOU AN AMAZING ENGINEER, but ONLY if you focus on what he is actually saying (not just what is on the slides). Take his class!

Extremely smart, but is almost useless when conveying material. You will end up spending a majority of your time teaching yourself the class material. His homework is ridiculous and isn't very helpful. His tests are extremely tough and you should plan on spending two weeks studying for it!

Madsen is a genius(search his name), but not a great teacher. The material is tough, and he tries, but he is probably just too smart to connect on a lower understanding level. Tests are hard, but he gives a lot of partial credit. Attendance is pretty much mandatory because of frequent pop quizzes. All things considered, I would take him again.

Fantastic class. Dr. Madsen is a pure genius who understands the material extremely well. That being said, he will not make it easy on you. Homework is due every class meeting. Dr. Madsen does not try to teach you the material as much as he teaches you to think like an engineer! It was a difficult but very rewarding class. Work Hard!

The most time consuming class i have ever taken. This class consumed so much of my time every week with mandatory homework done every day. The class was extremely difficult. He is an excellent teacher if you apply yourself and you will learn a copious amount about the basics of engineering.Tricky random quizzes. The BEST canvas site ever.

Madsen is a great guy and he really does want you to succeed. That being said, everything I learned in that class I learned on my own. Going to class is pretty useless, but he does have quizzes and they are worth a lot of your grade. He explains things, but only after the fact for homework.

Dr Madsen is the best teacher I have ever had at Auburn. I took Statics and Dynamics with him two years ago, and he is still the best teacher I have had to date. Willing to help you in his office. If you don't get something, he will explain it in a different way. The only C I've gotten in college but I would do it again for sure.

Dr Madsen is the best teacher I have had at Auburn. He can explain any part of the class in another way if you don't get it the first way he explains it. That being said, it's a hard class. Do the Homework and go to his office if you need extra help.
