Professor Silkin is definitely one of the better stats teachers out there. If you can take him I would highly recommend. Teachers the material at a good pace that everyone can keep up with, and will answer any questions brought up to make sure everyone understands. Good sense of humor as well.

Comment:

His style of teaching took some time to get used to. Generally he goes over the same material about three times, which allows you to become comfortable with it. I was terrible at math my entire life, but I finished with an A in his class! He gives many opportunities to get help and/or clarification. He also has a great sense of humor. Recommed!

This was a very easy class. For each test you get two parts. In class part is pretty easy, b/c you get to bring in one sheet of notes. But out of class is very hard and as long as you get help it is not so bad. Asking him for help though can be a problem, b/c he sometimes runs circles around the question you want answered.

Dr. Silkin is a very smart man, and an adequate teacher. He does a very good job teaching the basic concepts which is very helpful. He does give take home tests with more difficult material, so be prepared for them. He is helpful with them if you go in to his office hours.

Very smart guy who knows his stuff, but not how to teach it. Very confusing and unable to answer questions. Tries to help, but leaves you more confused when you're done. Final is optional, we had about 2 homework assgn. and 3-4 tests. Easy A, but I don't understand anything i learned.

He has three tests and the final is optional. He can be very confusing when he's explaining but he is only trying to get you to understand. His accent can be hard to understand but he has a funny sense of humor. Very helpful and will send you homework if you missed class.

He is a great guy, you'll notice how he wears almost the same thing everyday, but he always wants to make sure that everyone understands the material. He will explain the same thing 3 different ways, and that can make it confusing sometimes, but he is always willing to help. all in all a great class.

Pretty nice guy, and funny in class. He is somewhat difficult to understand but not necessarily because of his accent, he is just a little hard to follow. He helped me with the test and take home. There isn't much of homework. one small quiz a week. Nice guy, i think he's a good choice for math and dec. making

Great teacher. Covers material well, and has a sense of humor for change. Gives lots of opportunities to make sure you have the material down well. In class tests are moderately difficult, he leaves the harder stuff and tedious calculations for the take home portion of his tests.

Nice guy, but bad teacher. He explains things in a confusing way. Isn't helpful when you go to him for more help, better off going to the math lab. Take the class with someone else. Oh and that comment about not understanding people with or without accents doesn't make sense. Not his fault but it is hard to understand him with his accent at times.

I like this guy. He's laid back, really makes an effort to help people learn, and recognizes that not everyone is a mathmetician with time to memorize everything in the book (open book and notes quizes and tests). His jokes are hillarious!

slight russian accent. this guy is the bomb, one of the best profs ive had in my 8 years of college. Just make sure you go to class. His lectures are kinda like sitting in a Bond movie (without the women, guns and action).
