Comment:
Peter has been my absolute favorite teacher. You might not like him if you prefer conferences which are more student-led, but I loved the way he held conferences and incited discussion with questions. A very intelligent guy. Gave very helpful essay feedback. Also has a good sense of humor.

Brilliant man. His conferences and lectures are a shame to miss. He doesn't let you get away with any lack of clarity in your papers, and your writing will inevitably improve from working with him. Clearly one of the best professors you can have.

Perhaps the best professor at Reed, and by extension one of the very best teachers in the US. The clearest thinker I have ever met in a world of opportunistic obscurantism. His mind is powerful, relentless, muscular. His specialty is critical thought at a level of peerless analytical purity. My only reservation is that he is not self-critical.

One of the best teachers at Reed. An absolute master of the socratic method - you're never sure where he is taking you, but you always feel like you want to go with him. An authority in the best sense of the word.

Peter is a god among men. He has a way of guiding conference disscussions so that important points are always adressed, yet he is not overbearing. The Steinbergler everything you could ever hope for in a prof., granted you are willing to put in the work. I will always keep my notes from the first conference we had on the Philosophy of Right.

Peter is an amazing teacher. He taught me how to argue, how to think critically, but most importantly, he taught me about the state and the essence of politics. In retrospect, I owe the man the rigour of my thinking and writing. Hard core, but completelly worth it.

he came with glowing recommendations, but i was not impressed. he has a good method, he argues brilliantly, but conference was not well-handled, i think. he is VERY arrogant. one-on-one, fantastic. i think problems may have been due to the topic and makeup of the class- half pol, more phil.

Incredible. Incredible. Reed's best professor. Take a course from him if only to learn how to truly think critically.

The Godfather. His articles critiquing Rawls are right on. Excellent scholar and teacher. Generous with his time. There's nothing phony about him--he is as he seems.
