Comment:

Upton is probably my favorite professor on campus. Her Human Cultures class is what made me become an anthropology major. Her grading is straight-forward, although she is no push over. You need to contribute in class in order to get a good grade. Exams are heavily essay based. Overall, would take every single class she offered if I had the time!

I loved Upton. It was the first anthro class I had ever taken so I didn't know what to expect, but she was so awesome. The discussions are super interesting because she mostly lets the students lead the discussion but she always provides really important insight. It's a ton of reading and she expects a LOT, but I learned so much in this class.

Awesome class - brilliant medical anthropologist and now a student herself in public health. Amazing teacher, big vocabulary that can be difficult at times but excellent experience.

I would recommend everyone take an Upton class! You never know what direction class discussion is going to go, but it's always interesting. Test questions are given beforehand so you always know exactly what to expect. However, she does expect you to use your thinking/reasoning skills to approach the questions. No rote memorization here!

Upton's a pretty good professor. She lays out what she expects, and its easy to follow. Class discussions are interesting for the most part, but could get boring once in a while. Great class. Only complaint would be she assigns a ton of books to read(about 6 a semester), which is kind of unnecessary.

Class discussion sucked. She doesn't do a great job... overseeing it. Don't take a class with over 20 students with her. But Upton is a good person and good to talk to. Take a class with her less because of the quality of her courses, and more to get to know her. She'll be there for you throughout your undergrad career.

Upton is such a great woman and professor. She is so smart, has so much experience in her field, and is such a sweetheart. She will help you with whatever you need, and is so open-minded and non-judgmental. Classes are discussion based and interesting. I loved the class, and I don't even like Anthropology.
