This man is amazing. The only GREAT professor I've had so far at KU. Some people didn't care for him because he is a tough grader, can be critical, and holds nothing back BUT he's just looking out for you. Class is all papers but he grades quickly w/ good feedback. Taking him again in the spring! This man knows his stuff and will inspire you!

Comment:

His class isn't easy and he definitely makes you work or your grade. However, he will undoubtedly make you into a much stronger writer than before. He even lets you rewrite the first paper. He also reads most of the readings while you're in class and he gives great insights while he does, which really helps when you write your papers.

Whoa! Katz is a great professor. Inspiring but approachable. Can't agree with student who says Katz doesn't give helpful feedback. He helped improve my writing from C level to B. Yeah, ya gotta do the work, but his advice is great. My second class with this guy. He's the real deal.

He is intelligent and insightful, but his papers are a nightmare to write & he has no problem berating the entire class if they're not up to his standards, instead of teaching the right way to do it. Also, he gives pop quizzes (almost never warned us, either) & there's an in-class midterm that he doesn't give enough time for. Prepare to work hard.

This my was 2nd class with Katz. Inspiring and clear when it comes to feedback on papers. He expects a lot but helps you get there. Made me really like and understand hard literature. Very engaging in class.

Great professor! No tests just papers, will let you redo the paper up until the next one is due. He gives great feedback, but expects you apply the changes gives and more on your own. I would take him again for sure. You can find all the readings online, you do not need the book.

Dr. Katz is an AMAZING professor. His first couple days are tough but that's just so he can weed out the weak, stick with him and you'll be happy you did. You really learn a lot in his classes. He knows a lot of stuff! If he likes your class, he'll warn you when the pop quizzes are. He likes people who participate and share their opinions.

I would highly recommend taking Professor Katz! He give you 5 papers increasing the length as the semester goes on, and you are allowed to redo all of your papers for a higher grade. To receive a high grade you must apply his pointers as well as redo paragraphs or thesis.

I've taken Dr. Katz for three classes. He is incredibly clear, and his lectures are interesting. He engages his students. Typically, there are four reading quizzes (which he warns you ahead of time) and two five page papers. You may re-do the papers for a better grade. However, you must be a strong writer. I never got anything less than an A-.

Katz's classes are interesting, and he always goes over anything we are assigned to read. BUT he is one of the hardest graders I have ever experienced. I've always been known by my teachers as a good writer, and got now lower than a B on papers. But with him, he looks for details. Lets you redo his 5 page papers, but not very helpful in emails..

Honestly one of the best professors I've had at Kean! Although it is a lot of reading, he makes the material relatable by using real life scenarios as well as hearing your input on it. Attendance wasn't mandatory but showing up to class and hearing his discussion helped me did so well on all his quizzes/essays. Def will take him again!

He is an intense professor. I learned a lot in his class, but he is a bit of a tough grader on papers. He reads the assigned readings aloud during class but expects you to read it beforehand to contribute to class discussion. While he reads he gives his own interpretation of the text and asks for ideas from the students. He never criticizes a student for being wrong and appreciates everyone's opinions. It was a lot of reading and a tough class, but I think I'd take him again.

Very tough class and grader. But Dr. Katz is so very helpful. I went from nearly failing to a C+. If you are in college to really learn, take this professor. He seems intense, and he is, but that's because he really cares about his subject and students.

Had Him for American Lit II and Senior Seminar. Great Professor! His lectures are clear and interesting. Very knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches and more. You always learn something more than just the material than you're reading.A fair grader,his comments on essays are very useful.You get to revise the essays. Take his class.
