Best professor I have ever had so far. I always managed to chuckle a few times every lecture because he just radiates good vibes. Lectures were not mandatory, but you are really missing out if you skip.

This professor is possibly one of the best I've ever had. I learn best through lectures, and his are always very clear and concise. He has a 'grumpy old man' air about him, but he's the sweetest and most patient man ever. When I started struggling in the class, he was there and listened to what I had to say before judging me.

He loves what he does and I think that rubs off on students. Lots of interesting demonstrations in lecture. No homework, but he posts written solutions to all of the problems in the book so you can and should do them on your own. Gives a somewhat detailed breakdown of material that will be on each exam so you know what sections to study.

Great professor who discuss every question in assignment before you write it (even sometimes with the answer!). And always tells you a model of coming exam that makes exam really easy.

Prof. Merlino is easily the best physics prof I've had at Iowa. Although he's an experimentalist, he provided crystal-clear explanations of BOTH the physics AND mathematics behind Maxwell's equations. I expected that the class would be really hard - but he made it seem easy. I ended up getting an A+ in the class. The book used is great too!

Physics for Everyday Experience is not a super easy class. Need you to work a bit hard for getting an A in the class. The professor is great, no homework or attendance is required. A lot of interesting experiments happened in the lecture if you attend everyone of them. A lot of information and materials to remember.

Comment:
The class contains too many knowledge, and it is not easy to get A. But professor Merlino is a good teacher. He did a lot interesting experiments in class. The practice exam is way to easy, compared with real mid term. But I still recommend this course.

I took this course over the summer. 4 exams, 20% each. Lab 20%. There were many demonstrations. Professor Merlino answered emails and was very helpful in my opinion when asking questions. Practice exam questions represented the actual exam well. Some of the conceptual questions were tough though. TAKE NOTES IN LECTURE! Do problems in the textbook.

2 midterms 30% each. 1 final 40%. Each test has very tricky questions that were not covered in lecture or reading. He makes the class average a C. Came into class thinking it would be an easy A, ended up being my only B... Would recommend Physics I if you are good at physics. Also practice tests are 100x easier than actual Tests

Professor Merlino is a great guy and awesome teacher, however his tests for Physics of Everyday Experiences are extremely difficult. He is always available for out of class help and always lecture a blast to go to. I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone not having experience with physics. It is very difficult but a very fun class.

Dr. Merlino is a great guy. Probably one of the only nice, interesting and funny professors on campus. If you take Physics of Everyday experience you wont think it is a hard class, but YOU HAVE TO STUDY FOR THE 3 EXAMS THEY ARE NOT EASY. The demonstrations are cool but you have to study for the exams.

THIS CLASS IS NOT EASY!!! i go to every lecture, take notes, and the tests are still hard...the curve barely helps. i thought this would be an easy A, but even with all of the time i put into this class it is tough. The tests are ridiculous. Don't take it....

Although the teacher makes class time really interesting, his tests are extremely difficult. You have to go to lecture if you want to do well in this class. There is no mandatory homework or reading, but you have to study and prepare for his tests a great deal. Everyone says this class is really easy, but I would argue opposite the material is HARD
