I cannot praise Poole enough! You will never have a more creative professor or a more creative approach to teaching an elective course! This is not your mother's bland history class. Yes, there is a lot of reading, but it's worth it. He's a pleasure to talk to outside of class and clearly cares about his student's opinions and success.

Great history class to wipe out your gen ed requirement. Be sure to attend lectures and take good notes, final exam is a take home final and slides are not on oaks. Writing assignment can be kind of vague but once you figure out what he is looking for the class gets a lot easier.

I absolutely love Dr. Poole, so much so that I am taking another class from him next semester. If you show up, take notes and complete the assignments, you will get a good grade. He is so nice and funny and he is genuinely very passionate about what he is teaching. He has been my favorite professor at CofC so far and I can't wait to take 116 next!

If you don't agree with his opinions you might as well just not participate. He actively tells students they are wrong on opinion-based questions. He somehow finds a way to link everything back to racism, sexism, etc. even when it makes no sense. He acts nice in class but has no interest in talking to you afterwards; rude in emails too.

There is not enough characters allowed for me to express the amount of enjoyment or happiness I had from taking Dr. Poole's class. He is very intelligent on his subject, brilliant at writing, and one of the coolest professors I have ever had. I would marry the man if I could. Get ready to read and participate if you want a decent grade. He rocks.

He is horrible. If you are trying to take a gen ed and make an easy A this is definitely not the class for you. His grading is unreasonable. The books have nothing to do with the course. Your opinion basically doesn't matter when it comes to writing his papers. Don't be fooled he is a nice guy but terrible professor in my opinion.

He is awesome. He is funny and passionate and clearly tells you what you need to do to do well in his class. He is available to help you if you need it, and gives detailed feedback on papers. He actually makes history fun (which was new for me). I tell everyone that needs a History gen ed to take him. You won't regret it.

Very nice guy, keeps lecture entertaining however, very difficult grader for a Gen Ed. He takes his class more like an English class than a History class. If you're great a spitting out papers an English prof. would approve of then I recommend him, however, if you are not good at writing papers I do not recommend him.

Took his maymester Monster in America. I walked away with a better understanding of horror movies, urban legends, and their relation to society and the historical context. His class was the easiest 200 level I have ever taken. Lectures supplemented readings. Show up everyday and offer something and you'll do well on the final.

I am a history major and I do not like this class. I think his lectures are pretty boring and he is an extremely hard grader (and I have been in higher level classes than this one). Maybe its just my personal preference but definitely not in my top history teachers here. He does plan lots of cool activities and speakers though. LOTS of assignments

Dr. Poole is very helpful in office hours and his class is super interesting concerning evil in history. This class however is a ton of work! He's a very harsh grader and there's four different papers to write, two tests and a book quiz. If you're looking for an easy humanities credit, avoid this class!!

Excellent professor! His course looks at history from a darker perspective, so be prepared. Can seem a little loony sometimes and tries to relate everything to Marxism, but if you look past that, he's very funny and smart. Gives out extra credit like Mardi Gras beads, my final grade was >100. Mention everything in the lectures in the test essays!

Dr. Poole is interesting, funny, helpful, and genuine. He is incredibly intelligent yet he presents the material in a way that makes sense. He is available to anyone that needs help. Put in the effort and you'll do well. The textbook for this course is a book written by him, which is a little intimidating. Awesome dude, awesome course.

Dr. Poole makes getting out of bed to be at an 8:00AM class easy. His classes are always informative and never feel like a "waste". His class material is neat and interesting to think about. Seriously, take this professor. Just do it.

Easily one of the best history professors at cofc. I hate history. It is always so boring and redundant. This class was different. Dr. Poole made the class very interesting. I failed the midterm, and ended up finishing with an A in the class because I decided to listen and work at it. It turned out to be my most interesting class. Take Him
