Comment:
Nitz is a really good teacher and knows what he is talking about. The class is easy. All of the tests are take home, 2 big primary source assignments, 2 really easy map exercises. However, very boring. Bring a laptop and sit in the back. Easy to pass.

Nitz makes a Western Civ class seem like the most interesting thing you've ever learned. His lengthy Powerpoints are laced with dry humor and videos to break up the monotony of the slides. Two take home tests, a final, two hefty primary source assignments and two small map assignments make up the class. He is very wise and has great life stories.

SO enthusiastic about Germany/Nazis/the Holocaust. Fascinating course. Took his class on the Holocaust and 19th century Germany and learned a ton. No reading required really, all tests are take home and all papers are straight-forward.

Nitz is very knowledgeable on this subject. Shows powerpoints every class all class and provides outlines through Blackboard (in case you miss class). Takes attendance every class period. He knows so much and isn't afraid to go on rants about random things in history! Definitely take him b/c he knows what he's talking about & actually cares!

Nitz is a good prof. He didn't post his power points online and he goes through them a little fast, but if you are a quick note taker, that won't be a problem. His study guides were very helpful for his exams and cover everything you'll need to know. The paper's require you to read the textbooks. You will learn everything about Islam in this class.

This was the summer course in Florence and I would definitely take another class from him. A very nice, funny, interesting guy. He takes pride in his presentations to make them interesting. Minimal need for reading other than for papers. Two take home map exercises, one term paper, and two take home tests. Easy grader on papers. Great teacher

Dr Nitz is AWESOME! He is entertaining and the nicest man ever. I have taken his classes twice, and he never makes the assignments harder than they need to be. You really only need to read for the papers, which is minimal. Take any class of his if you can!

Nitz knows what he is talking about, especially if it involves any WWII/Holocaust subject matter. Minimal assignments that aren't difficult to complete as long as you start it early enough. He's great, knows his stuff, and is a really nice guy!

3 tests in this class including the final. Tests are VERY easy. Know the most basic fact on each item on the review and you will be fine. Also dont take notes during class, just study his topic outlines he puts on blackboard. Do other homework during class or listen if you actually enjoy history.

Easiest class ever. You don't have to read, and everything you need to know is on all the Powerpoint lectures. He puts them online so you don't even take notes. He does take an attendance grade, though, so you do have to show up. Three exams (he tells you EVERYTHING on it), two map exercises, and two easily graded papers. He's a very funny guy

One of the best teachers I've had at GU. Superb powerpoint presentations, which are also online in a PDF format. He's clearly excited about the material, and wants you to be as well. No tricks on the fairly easy tests, and Nitz will always give you extra help if needed. Overall, a great class.

I haven't had him for History, but he's my advisor and I have him for Pathways. He's a nice guy and gives good advice as an advisor. He's got an awkward sense of humor that I don't really get, and he kind of talks about himself a lot. Sometimes I feel like he shoves off busywork on students so he doesn't have to teach it.

Islamic Civ is one of the most interesting classes GU offers. Nitz is SO knowledgable, so interesting, and he is ALWAYS willing to answer questions. He always looked like he was in pain, but otherwise, interesting and funny. Amazing integration of poli sci, history, relition, etc.
