If you want to do well in his classes then you will have to study and work hard at the class. he knows that you have to do this, it is on purpose. you have to learn this way.

Grad student on a power trip! Who cant stand it if an undergrad doesnt bow to his intelligence. Have some accountability; if half your class is failing , maybe its the presentation not the students, just a thought.

I've had troy for MAE 311 and 310. I got a C in 310 and hope to get a C in 311. I'm not the smartest student but i think troy is one of the best teachers i have ever had. I would take his class any semester.

For those of you that are bashing Troy about grades such as Word, MathCAD, and Excel assignments in MAE 100, he does not have control over those grades. There are graders that grade those to help him out. He is one of the best instructors and if you can take him please do!

Comment:

He's extremely obnoxious, especially if you can't stand his sense of humor. I wouldn't recommend taking him for anything, as it seems his only goal is to discourage students from engineering. I can understand being a bit tough with grading and so forth, but he takes too far. It's possible to get an A in MAE 100, but you'll definitely work for it.

Honestly he is an awesome teacher. You will leave his class knowing the material whether you pass or not. His grading is extremely difficult because he counts off for mistakes in the problem and then takes off for not having the correct answer. If you are looking for an easy grade avoid him. Told us 1st day that a C in his class is like an A.

Troy is one of the better professors in the MAE/CE area, in my opinion. He assigns a lot of homework, but you'll learn the material. His tests are legendary, and require thorough understanding of the material. His tests will actually make you think instead of merely regurgitating material. I'm also taking him for MAE 310, and it's a blast as well.

Troy expects you to do your homework and to ask questions. His lectures are very clear and he will spend as much time as needed to explain something. He grades hard, but that is because he expects you to put the work in to learn this stuff. DO THE HOMEWORK!!!

This guy is awesome!! He gives tons of homework, but most of the problems come straight from the class lectures. He is very busy, but as long as you go to his office right before class or during his office hours, he willing and able to answer pretty much any question you throw at him. He sometimes has mistakes in his lectures, but is a good overall

If you see MAE 100 available without Skinner, TAKE IT. The class itself isn't hard, but they give you a ridiculous project for a 100 level class, and they grade it so hard it will bring your average down, possibly a full letter grade or more. The rest of the work isn't bad, but they are super picky about every detail.

easy class. entertaining most of the time. Prof follows the rules and makes no exceptions though. all assignments are relatively easy (or TA/Profs help you) and have plenty of time to complete. really good engineering intro class

He is awesome! Go's out of his way to make sure you are successful. Very approachable and knowledgeable. Fun CAD projects. The course work is pretty challenging if you are not very good at CAD, but you do get better as the class progresses.
