This is Prof. Lau. Two responses to the ratings on this site. One is the comments about drugs. I give one talk about drug use with the intention to help students make healthy choices. Two is the stories - yes I tell a lot of stories to put engineering practice into context. And to prepare students to contribute to making life better.

Comment:

I'm not sure why this guy has such low ratings. Master Lau's class is very relaxed and a break from all of the other weedout classes engineering freshman are required to take. He tells a lot of stories and sometimes there's a time crunch because he spent so much time telling stories, but honestly it's very worth it. His stories can be very funny.

I really hate to give him a 2 because he is nice. Unfortunately, he does do things that are quite disturbing. For example, he tries to indoctrinate his personal religious (he is a luddite) beliefs in class. He even made the class pass a prayer sheet and recite a Luddite prayer. Im pretty sure that's not allowed for a Sustainability course.

This course is the WORST. This class will end up being the biggest waste of your time. You will legitimately learn nothing about sustainability. So much busy work and pointless assignments, my head almost exploded, and I love learning about sustainability. Andy Lau is REALLY nice, nothing bad to say about him, just a bad class. Grades MONTHS late

He was entertaining always talking about his prior experiences which ended up wasting lots of time. Because of this we were really in a time crunch for the last semester. Overall it was an extremely ease course.

This class was pretty easy with little work, and he wants you to get an A because its a seminar. However understand it is incredibly boring and dry, and no one really wants to be there. However, Lau is a great guy, and maybe I only felt this way because I don't like Star Trek. Other than that attendance is mandatory and theres like 5 HW assigns.

I think he is so disrespectful to waste the class time. Students are taking many classes and for him to waste 1 hour on a personality test in an engineering design class instead of allowing us an hour to leave early shows how much he respects us. His grading is very basic as he only takes off in increments of 5. No positive participation grade.

Prof Lau is a cool guy. He can be helpful with your engineering major. In this class though, he made it alot more work than it should have been. The class also wasnt very helpful at all. Nothing against Lau, but i wouldnt suggest taking this class

By far worst prof. ive had. Its a class where u should get an A, but he makes it impossible. There is no curiculum n u dont learn anything. goes off topic n its painful to sit thru for 6 hrs a week. the grading system makes no sense. one time we had a quiz and didnt even tell us what it was on till the nite before 12 hours prior thru email. AVOID!

Mr. Lau was overall a good and easy teacher. He can get off track sometimes talking about his life stories, but that's okay. He's an easy grader and the workload seems relatively less in comparison to other edesign classes.

Not much work and an easy A, like a seminar should be. I learned a lot about different types of engineering and it helped me decide what I want to do. Definitely take this over, say, the bioengineering seminar because it's much less work. He's a really cool guy and tells us a ton of stories about his work and when he went to penn state.

Cool guy, but at the end of deadlines he crams you with work when you had to do nothing all semester. He rarely gives homework but when he does it is extremely lengthy and gives no time for you to complete it. He expects too much in too little time after he wastes time telling old drug stories.

This teacher is a disaster. Do not take any of this damn class. I showed up to every his class, did all the work and still can't get a damn A. He picked up grammatical errors a lot. He does not deserve such a high rate. Trust me, for your own good.
