He is a very nice prof.! Easy going and fun to talk to. The way he encourages students to talk in the class would not make you feel uncomfortable. Even if you are a shy person, you will want to try to speak in his class because Elliott is being very understanding.. grades and paper were given and returned pretty quick, like in a week or two.

i hate him so much. he missed 4 classes, and when he did show up, i was elsewhere quietly protesting. kept on extending final paper which appealed to lazy slack-offs. should read more contemporary urban theory and get out of the 1970s.

Comment:
In the second term of this year (2005), Elliot missed 4 classes in a row, prompting most students to loose total confidance in the class, as while as this prof. Lectures are irrelevnat at times, and quite old-fashioned. As well he hasn't returned our final grades yet (it's been a month ****!!!)

brian was a great prof- easy to talk to, had interesting ideas, and was an all around good guy. i don't know what the hell everyone else's problem was. ditto on the last comment.

i can't believe people would rag on someone who was obviously very ill all term. if students are sick, they expect the prof to understand and be accomodating. why doesn't that go both ways? Brian is a great prof who cares about his students and will totally go the extra mile to encourage them.

He is an unorganized, pompous, inconsiderate and lazy teacher. I wish I had never wasted time and money on his class.

He skipped 5 out of 7 classes, and didn't even bother to send out emails to notify his students. His lectures are BORING, and I mean BORING! No clue what he's talking about in class, but just makes us copy overheads. No idea what the final is going to be like.

he's simply unprofessional. IF you want your materials handed back, you either have to harass him through email/in-person, or complain to the head of the department. That's what I did

From what I've heard, he was easy and interesting. What were those people thinking? He's the total opposite. Aside from being an easy marker, he's extremely isolated from the current realm of Sociological research. His reading lists make no sense and don't relate to the course at all. braves words..

He still hasn't give back our essays for the class. He's always late, unorganized, and uncritical. His responses to your questions deviate in a major way, you get a twenty minute lecture about something that makes no relevance to you. he should retire....now!

He's too caught up on old urban theory. He's very biased, unorganized, and doesn't accept unique points of view. Sadly, I have another class with him next term so i know what i'm getting myself into. His marking is EASY! He just doesn't explain why you got a particular mark. My advice: stalk him!

I've taken all his classes. I think he's a great guy and, although some of his lectures get boring, the majority of them are enjoyable. If you don't like essays do not take this class as he expects a 20 page paper per course. No exams though, which is what I like.

Marking is a little stiff, too much weight on what's really one assignment (90%)! But the material is interesting, and he's also pretty good to listen to... lecture format a little boring, but he tries a bit!

outline worth 30...paper worth 60...so he's a lazy teacher and he hates clarifying himself and all he does is repeat the readings in class..wouldnt recommend his class...its boring and he's not a good teacher

interesting stories, good subject matter and fair marking make his classes enjoyable. They generally consist of presentations, discussion groups and papers, so it is great for those of us that dislike midterms. also has a lot of knowledge to share.
