Comment:

Very sweet lady, but means business when it comes to exams. They are no joke! I loved her and got an A because I'm a huge bio nerd, but pretty much everyone else struggled. If you're not a bio nerd like me, do not take her! She is pretty much 100% lecture based and can go on tangents.

4 exams each worth 100 points, grades online hw based only on completion (only need 90 of the 160 points for full credit), and 15 online quizzes that she takes your highest 7 grades of (each worth 5 points). So the entire semester is ONLY 525 points! 1 mess up and your grade is done. The bio department really needs to work on this. It's not fair!

I hate to say this, but KSU REALLY needs to hire other genetics professors. Don't get me wrong, Vogelein is an AMAZING teacher, but the 4 exams were pretty tough, and it's entirely lecture based. She'll use powerpoints in class and will ramble on each slide for like 20 minutes. Sweet lady, but HARD tests!

Comment:

This class was really hard for me and the exams were as well. But I recommended taking her 100%. She will go above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. Take advantage of her office hours for sure! It helps a ton. She gives weekly quizzes and only counts 7 out of 15. There's the regular mastering hw as well

Comment:

This is a hard class, period. But Dr. Vogelien makes it a bit easier to understand because she knows how hard it is for undergrads. She's very nice and approachable and makes herself available for help. Only counts 1/2 the quizzes and HW, final replaces lowest exam grade. Just READ, GO TO S.I., ask her anything else you're worried about.

She's so nice and helpful, really wants the students to excel. Tests are very detailed in the material. At least takes a few days to study that material for the exam. quizzes are difficult, probably harder than the exams sometimes.

Dr. Vogelien was a passionate lecturer, which made going to class much easier. Like others have said, she only counts half the quizzes you take, so it's an easy grade booster. Reading the textbook is necessary to do well. Be prepared to study, because her test questions can be pretty specific. Overall, very fair professor, would take again.

She is AMAZING! I wish I could take her again. Genetics is a hard class, but she is very clear in all her lectures and even does a review at the beginning of class to make sure everyone is on the same page. 1 or 2 quizzes weekly (she counts 9 out of 18) for easy grade boosters. Re write your notes while studying and do suggested HW.

Great professor, one of the best I have had at KSU, she makes the class interesting, she is very passionate about genetics, make sure you do well on quizzes (only 9 out of 18 count), her tests are pretty hard, but if you read the book and study for 2-3 nights in a row before the test you should be fine.

She really knows her stuff when it comes to Genetics. You can tell she enjoys teaching. She is always available during her office hours to help. Her exams are not the easiest . She gives a lot of quizzes but only grade the best 9. You have to go to the lectures and read the books to understand the material. This class requires a lot of time

This class is no fun but Dr Vogelien makes it okay. She is enthusiastic and intelligent. Studying for genetics took ALL of my free time. take very detailed notes and do the suggested problems.

She is a great professor, her quizzes are extremely easy and she gives you about 30 and only counts your highest 6 grades. However, they are nothing like her exams so dont rely on them. Her tests are extremely hard. Her questions are in MCAT format so be prepared to really analyze her questions.

Great professor. Her class is not easy, but she tries to be as clear as possible and tells you what's important for the test and what's not. It's obvious that she is very passionate about teaching and enjoys it very much. She's very helpful if you need it and will do everything she can to help you do well.

I love Dr. V. She is a great. I won't lie, it's a hard class and she is very thorough when she teaches. I took it over the summer, but she made sure we knew what was happening and she was amazing in lab. I have her again for BTEC 3301 and I still love her. I'd always recommend her. It is a lot of studying though, but that's just how Genetics is.

Comment:

She is a nice lady, but it is really hard to get a hold of her. The class is hard and requires lots of study time, her tests are VERY detailed! The material is enjoyable and interesting, but you'll suffer seeing your grade drop. It's a torture! I started off loving the class and right about now I am praying it will be over soon!

Dr. V is the BEST teacher I've had since transferring to KSU. I would take her for any class she teaches if it's in my curriculum. She's understanding and fair, and tries to make sure you know the material as best as possible. STUDY HARD! She doesn't hand out grades & tries to make sure to give you as many chances as possible to make a good grade

Comment:

Many thing plant physiology is hard. It's not. It is a lot of memorization. You don't need the book because she is so thorough in class, but it is a good supplement. Even without an interest in plants this class is really interesting if you like pathways. I really enjoyed myself. In any sense, Dr. V is the reason you should take this class.

She is tricky. The concepts were not difficult but she made it became hard. Don't take her. I was interested in Genetics before I took her class but I guess I'm not interested in it any more.

Her exams and quizzes are extremely hard and very detailed. Unfortunately I found that her exams are more centered towards details than understanding the actual big picture concepts and how things work at the DNA/RNA level.

This is one of the best professors I've ever had. She makes the problems very simple to understand. Just go to every class and do the problems she assigns for an easy A. You don't have to read the book that much, but, again, DO THE PROBLEMS ASSIGNED.
