Easy to get a good grade is you show up and do the work. Take notes read over them before the test and you will ace it. He hintstells you the essay questions during the class so you know what to expect. Test are all short answerIDEssay which sucks but the questions are easy. Onetwo books to read with short paper. 1 individual project-easy A

Take very detailed notes. His lectures are long but entertaining. His tests are hard, you have to regurgitate the notes exactly. I am not great at remembering every little detail but can write a pretty good paper including most things. I was still knocked for not remembering *everything*

There was absolutely no analyzing or interpreting anything in this class. You just have to regurgitate ALL of his lecture notes to get a good essay or test grade. Even if you expand on one point, but don't address something specific that he has in mind, your grade will suffer. And he is usually unclear in his instructions, which makes it worse.

Extremely hard to please. Over-use quotes on every assignment or you will not get a good grade. Does not respond quickly to emails. Uses many books.

He is a great teacher. It is very easy to take notes the way he lectures and makes history fun. The papers are easy but the test are hard. The way he grades is fair, but for some reason it's tough. Overall, he is a great teacher and I recommend taking his class. From what I could tell he does not play favorites but does like people to participate.

Is a good lecturer, but he grades crazy hard. He does not give much feedback. I studied very well for my midterm and somehow received a D! I never ever get Ds on tests I study for. He expects you to give specific examples of movies, producers, etc. on your tests. He only gives a syllabus and is not very detailed about what he wants w/indiv projects

A lot of small papers that can actually take a lot of time, a midterm, and a final. The tests are really hard, but he usually gives you the essay questions ahead of time. Decent lecturer, but doesn't give a lot of info about assignments. Also, he gives very little feedback on papers.

You have to work hard to get a good grade! For the tests, you have to regurgitate his lecture notes. For the papers, be sure to be specific and follow his directions. His lectures are pretty interesting. Be sure to participate in class!

Don't take him if you want to slack off, you need to put time & effort into his class, but if you do you won't be sorry. I hated history before his class, but he makes the lectures into stories that are impossible not to love. I never wanted to miss a class. Study HARD for his tests. His papers aren't hard, you write 8 short ones all semester.

He does everything through lecture, and goes off on random tangents. Very hard to tell what is important and what isn't. He isn't very clear about what's on tests, and he gives out a lot of homework.

His grading style makes no sense. I liked him in the beginning, but as the month went on, he began handing out horrible grades and not explaining why. Don't plan on seeing him outside of class-he won't get back to you or explain your grades to you. Only watched 1 movie the entire month, and it was American History Through Film...didn't make sense.

He's really pretty nice, but here's the truth. I got an A in the class for several reasons. 1, I sat in the front row. 2, I never missed class. 3, I ask questions. 4, I take good notes. He plays favorites, so play him; smile when you talk to him and laugh at his jokes. He's difficult if you're a slacker.

Worst class i've had at Elon. Literally dropped my history minor because he killed the subject for me. Unfair, hates to admit he is wrong, and impossible to get a hold of outside of class. Also wayyy to much work for an intro class.

Professor Cockrell is an entertaining, informative professor. The book reviews and the end of the year project are graded easily, but the tests are extremely hard. Take extremely thorough notes and attend class. You'll get an A if you do.

He is a really nice guy and makes history as interesting as it could possibly be but his tests are IMPOSSIBLE i've never studied so much in my life just to get a bad grade. the papers are so easy i got 100's on all of them including the book report and presentation. take good notes on the lectures and study really hard.

At first his lectures were interesting and he seemed kind of cool. Today was the last day of class and now I hate him. He assigns way too much work for an entry level course, you would think you were taking a 300 level one. He definitely plays favorites, especially to girls. And he can get cranky very easily, think it has to do with his weight.

I did well on everything in class, hw and papers but not so much on the tests. Like someone else said it does seem like he grades on his first impression of our work, i signifcantly improved my tests to the point were i wrote 12 and 14 pages on my last two tets and i still got bad grades, and if you get a bad grade on a test he never says why.

i LOVED this class! He makes history really interesting because his lectures are like stories. He is a really easy grader and not too strict with deadlines. There are lots of 2 pg papers, but they are really easy. If you have to take history - take this class.
