Comment:

English is my subject and this class felt so different from all classes I've taken. I felt like I worked a lot for this class and constantly felt this class was more like consumerism than logical English. I wrote a lot of essays in this class and felt so unsure about every of them, but somehow did good in this class. Open office hours is a big plus

Comment:

She is seriously one of the sweetest professors I have had in DeAnza. Not only does she give good feedback and will sit with you about how you can improve your papers, but she also genuinely ask about how you are doing. There are quizzes every class so you need to be prepared with the reading and vocab. you wont regret taking her.

I had a hard time with this teacher. She was mean, she compared me to her child and when on about how they were better writers then me. If I got a bad grade on a paper she would leave me wondering why. At most she would write two comments at the beginning. I keeps wondering if she had read the whole paper rather than writing me off.

Comment:

Definitely makes you work for the grade and can be a little abrasive, but I enjoyed her class. Lots of reading is involved, and as other people have mentioned you need to do multiple drafts.

I'm not going to lie she probably I sent for every one she can be vague at times with what she wants and gives a lot of work but if you like reading and/or whiting you should be fine.

Definitely makes you work for your grade but is not a very difficult teacher. If you come to class willing to learn and take note of her grading criteria you will be fine. She definitely appreciates effort and her grading is fair and pretty straight forward. BTW you dont have to buy the guide to writing textbook!

Furlan is a decent teacher. She doesn't grade tough. its not hard to pass her class with a C. She's all over the place at times and kind of awkward. I wouldn't recommend her but at the same time i wouldn't say that she's a horrible teacher. Just be aware that its not going to be the best class you've had if you're going to take her.

If you dislike group work then I suggest not taking her class. I am a logical learner and her lectures were very much verbal, so it was very hard for me to keep up in class. If you are willing to ask for help she will give you it. But, for me as a student, her teaching method did not work for me.

Furlan is really sweet. She talks to her students to make sure they are doing okay and is pretty clear on her grading. You have to do the writing homework to pass. You also must prepare for your essays and do multiple drafts. I do think that this class was beneficial to my learning. You must purchase the books she asks for, we use them for homework

She is not really clear about what she wants in an essay and her commentary didn't really help me out to improve my writing. She is a really nice teacher though and if English is your major or writing is your strongest suit you'll be fine.

Don't take her class. She's not helpful at all and actually critizes your writing using words like it was terrible, sucked, and horrible. Then she pretty much blames you for not understanding what she meant by stop by sometime, meaning "you're failing". No use in asking her anything.

Prof. Furlan's class was a blast. She knows the topic backwards and forwards, but is also lively and a great deal of fun. While the class requires work, it's not an unreasonable amount of work. I would recommend this class to anyone that's not simply interested in an easy A.

What she wants is very vague, although she keeps asking for more details. Details on what woman! She's a very nice person though, and gives you plenty of second chances. She doesn't give out much homework and when she does, it's usually easy. Except she grades very hard on Essays

honestly she is not a great teacher. she is okay at best, but no where near the quality of other teachers at deanza. she explains her grading, then when i asked for help she would not help, she would say there is the problem, but would not suggest how to fix it. would only reccommend if desperate or need the time given

she is nice, but not my favorite english teacher. she goes against what other english teachers in high school and at de anza told me. she teaches like a high school or middle school teacher, and it gets old, honestly. when i asked for help on my essay she would never give me an answer, she would say what do you think. well why would i ask if i knew

Ms. Furlan really cares about her students. She is not an Easy grader, but will give you detailed information on what you should work on. She's very sweet and helpful whenever you need her. I would recommend this teacher. I definitely learned a lot.
