Dory was the finest professor I experienced throughout college. (Olivet). She challenges, questions, and refines one as a writer. Her class is NOT for sissies. If you put forth the effort, she will expand your writing ability and lead you far beyond your expectations. If you think she is not fair, you have no business wasting her time.

Mrs. Obrien is retiring this semester. She makes me wish I would have came back to school way earlier. I would take every class she taught. I absolutely Love her.

I liked her at the beginning because of her dry sense of humor but as the semester continued, I did not like her at all. She is very unclear as to what she expects on your papers. She also extended our deadline for our final paper and then I was yelled at for turning it in "late" because she forgot she extended it. Will not take again.

I really enjoyed her class. She makes the class very interesting with her humor. I liked the way she gave a chance for rewrites on essays. I am taking her for ENC 1102.

I love English, but the way this professor presented it was not good. She constantly was presenting her own beliefs and did not teach. She was late a few times to where the class had to leave (30 mins late). I waited 3 hours just to get help on my essay for here to return to her office, but she told me to go away I can't help you.

As long as you do what is expected of you as a COLLEGE STUDENT you will do just fine in this class. Do not be intimidated....I believe this class will either make you or break you. Learn time management, take responsibility and if you want it bad enough...do your work and get the grade you deserve :o)

I took O'Brien years ago, and she is still one of my favorite professors. She had a wry sense of humor and a healthy supply of good stories/life lessons to impart. She was concerned with her students' entire intellectual development--not just their ability to write an outline--and used to lend me books to read (one of which I still need to return).

Professor O'Brien is undeniably passionate about English, however her personal influences take a bit too much of a toll on her class time. Do NOT take O'Brien without ENC1101 at THE COLLEGE. She does not explain requirements for assignments which is detrimental to success. Her humor is quite dry but hilarious. Take caution, but not a bad choice.

Her class is extremely easy because the only thing we do in class is talk about her and god. She is horrible with clarity. She jumps around subject to subject and it is rarely about the literature. She bad-mouths other teachers saying they pretend to teach when she ignores the basic rule of literature. It is about interpretation, not her opinion.

She has a sort of dry sense of humor but i thought she was funny. She only has you write 4 papers and she edits them......alot and allows for a re-write. If you put time and effort into the class...there is really noreason you shouldn't do fairly well (unless you are not a native english speaker...then you might have a problem....

Like other comments like my own, you must put forth actual effort in order to do well in this class. You cannot expect to coast through college and get a degree being half-literate at best. The first paper will show you what needs to be done. After that I saw where to go with my work. If you want to learn English right, take this class.

Anyone who does not put REAL effort into this class has no reason to complain. This professor is one of the best I have ever had. She will refine you. If you can't take the heat, get out of the frying pan and don't waste her time. By the way, judging from the editing errors in some of the comments, I can see why most of you did not do well.

She doesn't grade based on the quality or ability of a students work. I spent a week researching and rewriting a paper and a preppy girl (my friend)in the same class wrote her paper two hours before class and faked her references. She got A+ while I got a c-. I love English. I am a writer. O'Brien almost made me hate English and give up writing.

For your own sake, please avoid this teacher. She sets you up for failure, then tells you so. She doesn't explain class assignments and often grades them incorrectly. How she is still working, I have no idea.

WOW. BAD TEACHER. It's apparent that she gets on this site and rates herself with good smiley face comments over and over again to compensate for the actual ratings her past students have given her. PATHETIC Avoid this instructor by all means

I just dropped her class! mrs. O'Brien is a teacher to avoid!!! do not take her class, she is very sexest and rambles on about femenists and wastes class time, When she grades Essays' she uses her own personal Bias's to tell the student how they"misunderstood the text" everyone I talk to in the staff agrees and says her reputation precedes her...

SHE IS HORRIBLE! She spends all day talking about herself and her political views. IT'S A FRENCH CLASS, NOT POLY SCI! NEVER take this teacher. She should be fired, very soon.
