He's a good teacher and clearly knows his stuff, he co-authored a lot of the text books used for this class. It's interesting information, but the readings are long and boring.

Lectures are pretty long, boring, and often disorganized. He is a very sweet and helpful older man and means well. He really cares about the students and wants to help out if he can. Tests are very writing-intensive but the concepts aren't hard... just lots of memorization.

If you like naps, then take a class with him. He's so boring he made me fall asleep every class. He is not clear with his requirements, assigns grades at random, and does not respond quickly to emails. I do NOT recommend him.

Comment:

Professor Baynton is definitely one of the most memorable professors I've had. His assignments were difficult but were also very helpful and even fun! With his help, I had my 15 page analysis published by the State Historical Society of Iowa!

Professor Baynton is the best teacher I have had at Iowa. I have taken two classes with him, including Colloquium for History Majors, and he is awesome. He wants his students to succeed and truly loves teaching.
