Comment:
Professor Koopman is cheerful, lighthearted and respectful. In Fall 2018 this class was fairly lecture heavy. Students were evaluated by a couple quizzes and take home exams. As long as effort is applied, you'll do fine. One third of the course was devoted to Conservatism, which is rarely taught in University these days.

Basic intro class. A couple simulations help break up fairly decent lectures, learn concepts, and actually do politics to see if you like it. Good class.

This was a core class for freshman. You needed to like practical politics. Agreed with the college's doctrine of its church, but supplemented it with other views because few students are from the same denomination. Made the core class enjoyable with simulations and food.

Lectures a fair amount, but breaks it up with simulations and discussion. Knows his stuff, as he worked in politics a long time. Mostly keeps it interesting.

Thoroughly covers a few theories of public policy. Makes you do a group paper, but early in semester to get it out of the way. Knowledgeable about how it really works.

Prof. Koopman is a personable professor, who genuinely wants to know his students. I had him for DCM and he was really chill. He brought breakfast almost every day, we played games and got out of class early most days. He knows his material and is a fairly easy grader.

I really like Koopman, he's a really funny guy and is also really caring to his students. The best part is that his Finals is a take-home finals.

Koopman is a funny guy, it is really an interesting class and he makes it fun by including different games/simulations to help you understand the different concept. His lectures can be a little bland but he usually tells stories he experienced, because he actually worked in Washington D.C and experienced these things.

This professor was very likable and had a great personality. He enjoys politics and is very knowledgeable. For a DCM class however he is a flop. He criticized CRC doctrine and policies and Calvin College policies. Anther thing I personally did not like is that he required us to go to movies outside of class, whether we wanted to or not.

Good to very good prof overall. Encouraged us to use writing manual book to self-critique papers. Sometimes his realism and criticism of politics can seem cynical, but real politics probably is manipulative, too

I had Koopman for POLS 101 and 251. He was a very different teacher in each class. He never lost his hilarious sense of humor, but the 251 class was much more independent work (as a 200 level course should be). The only real fault I find with Koopman is that his feedback on papers and assignments is very limited, and therefore unhelpful.

Clearly bored teaching classes, but doesn't mean the class is always boring. Likes to make jokes, witty, very intelligent, lots of sarcasm, but is a likable guy

Just had my first class today. He really knows his stuff and seems to care about the students. He is extremely sarcastic(funny way) and in some strange way, kinda hot. except for the bald patch in the back. He's like the older kinda attractive.

Disappointing. Didn't really seem to care about the experience all that much - deadlines and assignments were unclear and unenforced, which seemed rather unfair for those who did their work on time. The end of the semester was chaotic - a little more organization on his part would have gone a long way.

Guy is hilarious. He was a DC snob and you don't appreciate it until youve been there for a while. he was more interested in getting you to to have a great experience then attempting to get something to grade you on. He doesnt teach from a book because hes done it himself.
