This man was intense. Passing his classes at a two college was tougher than my graduate work. But he prepares students for the intense graduate work. His class was not research intensive as my grad work. But his foundation enabled a pursuit in that direction

I just skimmed through all the comments and I am just amazed. Sure, each student is different but I'd have to say that Prof. Lee did hand out notes and additional papers to study. Yes, his lectures are long but incredibly informative. Yes, he is a hard grader but that is so you can learn. I never had a problem with him and neither did my classmates

One of the hardest classes I've taken so far. Mr. Lee's lectures were very long and boring. It was hard to understand what he was talking about because he changed topics a lot and there were no handouts at all. Tests were pretty difficult and there was no textbook or homework to help us understand what we were "learning".

Worst professor I've ever had. I got A+'s in 10 of my first 11 classes at De Anza and got a B in this class. It's the worst class I've ever taken. Completely arbitrary grading. I got an A- on the first test (one of three A's) and then a C on the second test writing the same style. WORST CLASS EVER. DONT TAKE.

Dr. Lee is a challenging teacher, but he is very intelligent and his lectures are intriguing. He is a great teacher and the work is rewarding. It takes a lot of study-based homework, so make sure that you take good notes (his tests are all based on his lectures). He requires four essay-style exams throughout the entire quarter, three take home.

Dr. Lee is a great teacher! If I found out he has written books, I would've paid better attention. He has high degrees and is very knowledgeable in Asian history. But be prepared, this is a hard class!

His course is demanding, but informative. Students must already be comfortable with traditional college courses. College essay writing and recording lectures are important. There is a lot of dense reading. Students sometimes have to remind him of dates and deadlines, even ones he sets. He will offer some help to students making genuine efforts.

Awesome teacher, hard to get an A if you don't know what he is looking for in your essay as the tests and points you receive are solely based on your essays in class and take home. Lectures are very interesting and very captivating. Other than that he is one of the few professors that make history enjoyable and come to life.

Comment:
Dr. Lee's lectures are more informative than our textbooks. His grading isn't so much difficult as it is specific - he takes writing ability into effect. There are only 3 or 4 assignments, which makes it plausible why many would fail b/c of the potency of each assignment. Worthwhile class though... challenging, but life is much the same way.

If you read any books on Chinese history, you'll realize that half the stuff he says is either made up by him or just plain wrong. Boring, arrogant, and grades hard. Take him if you want to fall asleep in class. But you can't cuz he wakes you up. Don't bother with the textbook because he thinks he is the textbook.

Don't Buy the book because it contradicts what he says. He thinks he knows what hes talking about, but he doesn't. He's extremely boring and arrogant. Need to come to class, or else you will fail, miserably. Ridiculous assignments, and barely bothers to grade them because he assumes your wrong about everything anyways.

Boring class. Grades really hard and never tells you what you did wrong. He just writes a score and probably never even read it. After the first exam, half the class stopped showing up. And don't even bother buying the textbook because he never uses it. Lectures are extremely boring. AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS!

This isn't a history class that you can expect to memorize facts and take a test on it.Dr.Lee is extremely knowledgeable, and I actually do not find him THAT hard.He is VERY specific in what he wants from you and your papers, but how you interpret his words is entirely up to you. I passed with an A; it's NOT impossible if you just try your best.

A professor who teaches you proper writing these days are rare. You cannot be successful anywhere if you cannot present your thoughts and ideas with clarity. I've learned so much from his strictness and ever since have appreciated every professor who stresses good writing and presentation. M/Cs are for feel-good grades; writing is for learning.

Great professor, he is extremely knowledgeable in the subject and the context. All exams are based on notes, so write down EVERYTHING he says. 3 exams, final is a take-home. Must be commited and expect to do a fair amount of work, other than that he is an amazing teacher and he makes learning history fun for the class. And very helpful!

You will almost certainly not get an A. He is a great teacher, but tough. I was very lucky, I worked incredibly hard and had a B going in to the final. My section got lucky and he let us do only the take home section of his final. Anyways, I had to cram it full. I got sympathy points for taking this course while in High School. He is fair. HARD!
