Comment:

I took several classes from Olaf Rankis, including an Independent Study. His classes were super hard, super engaging, and super inspiring. I graduated Summa cum Laude in 2007, and I still think of things I learned in his classes! He made me feel smart and clever at a time that I really doubted myself, and I will always remember him!

Comment:

Dr Rankis still has an effect on my life although I graduated in 2007. He took the time to tell my young daughter that she had a very smart mother on my graduation day! I still use much of the info I learned after several classes I took, including an Independent Study. He impressed me as an amazing educator!

Yes, he DOES smell great, lol. He is a very interesting and caring man. He's done some amazing things in life and been through some major events. He tells you all about it in class, and his course was enjoyable. I already knew most of what he taught, however his tests are not clear or easy. Tricky, subjective questions abound, and 2 tests only!

COM 250 and COM 102 were both extremely easy courses. It's no challange to get 100% on his exams. Interesting material. He does spend a little too much time talking about himself however. He is extremely comprehensive when going over exam material, you will do well.

I learned alot about communication in this class(COMA 102)But, I should have taken Public speaking instead. The final and mid-term were both very hard, the average score was 72% for both. He is very nice, but pay attention. He gives no make up day for missed tests.

No papers, text optional. Olaf is really interesting and I felt I learned a great deal. My test scores did not show all I learned. His tests are really hard and he only has a mid term and final so if you screw up too bad. He is a real interesting guy though.

Comment:

Great guy, but not sure what he is talking about most of the time. His classes are just him taalking about times in his life, and have nothing to do with the class. Everything is really unclear and the mid-term and final are pretty hard you need to study because the midterm is 40% and the final is 60% of your grade.

No papers, no readings, notes are available on Blackboard, sounds easy? Well, make sure you go to class and pay attention because the course grade is based on two exams. Prof Rankis is professional and treats students as adults, and expects the same in return. Friendly, knows his stuff, presents material in an interesting way, approachable. A+

Test reviews very unclear-not real sure how but with his fall "05" Class not real clear- Majority of the class did not seem to do very well on their mid terms. Material reviewed was not on the test(not much of it) Seems like a nice man in real life outside of class. Does interject some jokes with curriculum.

He is an excellent communicator and teacher, and does a good job with visuals and other ways of learning besides just talking. The only thing I didn't like was that he based the entire grade on 2 exams, and didn't learn the names of the students (even though it was an ITV class).
