Comment:
Dr. Haseltine is difficult to comprehend at first. His tests are extremely difficult but he does curve a whole letter grade or more for each exam. No homework, quizzes or other grades. Only 3 exams and the final - one exam may be dropped. Be prepared to learn the material on your own. Mechanism problems are graded very harshly. Study hard!

Organic Chemistry is already hard enough as it is and I feel like he doesn't make it easier on you. He isn't really organized. Every week quizzes would be over new material while lectures were still over the old material we didn't finish yet. I did like how he rounded tests up a whole letter grade. I'd make a C and somehow it turned into a B

Professor Haseltine is a nice person, but he veers off the material and goes into more obscure stuff a lot. You don't really know what the tests will be over. He will provide tests from previous years/semesters, but they're not easy to practice off of. A lot of his lectures are not from the book. His lectures are VERY fast-paced its hard to keep up

Comment:
Most lectures were just him blabbing on about pointless topics that didn't pertain to the course or help us learn more about Ochem. For quizzes, he locks the door the minute class starts and will not let you in to take the quiz. Unable to be in class for a really good reason? Don't even try asking to make it up. He's unhelpful and confusing.

Be prepared to take a quiz on the second lecture of the semester. Make sure you are prepared to take true/false quizzes every other lecture. You mostly have to self teach the material because his lectures are organized in a weird way. He teaches like you know the subject. Be prepared to put the effort in to pass this class.

Dr. Haseltine was absolutely amazing. He made a notoriously hard class seem like a breeze. He has a great way of explaining the concepts, and he gives very generous curves. He really knows his stuff about o chem, and he really wants everyone to succeed in his class. I wish I could take him for orgo 2. TAKE HIM, he's awesome!!

Very difficult class but he understands that and doesn't expect everyone to be experts. Generous grading and curving. I would definitely read the material he talks about in class AHEAD of time. Class is really just him reviewing the material, not teaching it. Fairly helpful guy, funny and obviously understands ochem extremely well.

Haseltine is a fantastic professors and expects the very best out of his students. His quizzes come straight from the textbook, word from word. Organic chemistry is a hard subject, but his test are very clear and straight to the point compared to other professors who over complicate it. He curves grades based on class performance.

He is such a great guy! He is willing to go out of his way to help when you need him too. He puts up old tests and worksheet for practice. I took him over the summer, yes it was very hard, and I had many many late nights studying. He curves the tests and it was my first time taking o chem. I would take his class again. Very sweet man!

There are teachers that make you regurgitate what you learn and there are others like Haseltine that make you apply it. Definitely one of the toughest classes I have taken. Be ready to put in a ton of work for this class. weekly quizzes (T or F) come from the book, tests come from lecture. got a 94 in his class (80 was an A, 65 B, 55 C)

This is my second time taking this class and it is incredibly hard. Professor does not go by the book, you have to draw reactions for his exams (many ochem professors do NOT require that), and he quizzes every class. He hardly gives extra credit but does give generous curves. You'll teach yourself everything, lectures are not helpful. BookBFF

I took Haseltine for my third attempt at o chem and I might have a shot at a B this semester with the curved exams. Read the book! For spring semester, it was a quiz every Thursday. If you took decent notes on the chapter ahead of class, the lecture was a breeze. First time I've actually understood what was going on! He posts old exams to practice!

definitely not for the weak of mind or spirit. You will need to put in a lot of studying outside class, and even then don't just expect an A. He knows his subject and if you're willing to put in the groundwork you will walk away with a true understanding of the material. He also has a pretty straightforward grading policy.

I took him over the summer and I went to every class and was constantly studying. No matter how hard I studied I would get a C or lower on the test. This was the only class I was taking so all my time was devoted to this class. I took lab on top of this and got an A. He wrote his notes on the white board and taught as if you already knew it.

Don't taking him unless you want you G.P.A to drop. You will study and go to class but it still won't be enough. he doesn't give powerpoint but exams come from what he teaches in class. He believes the textbook is wrong so he doesn't test so much from it. his exams are tricky too. Run don't walk-take another professor.

Requires reading chapter before he lectures and tests on material. Quizzes test grade. Tests over 2-3 chapters of material with a 20 question test, 50% are non-multiple choice questions. Makes class extremely difficult for the level he is teaching. He has a complex that requires him to prove his intelligence by sticking to you. Take someone else!

Dr. H is such a great professor & really loves Organic chemistry. He really strives for all of his students to have the same passion for the subject. His tests are very tough, but he is the best professor I've had. If you commit the time to the class, you will do well. Didn't do as well as I would've liked, but would I'd definitely take again.

My advice? Drink a lot of caffeine and stay sharp in his class. He moves fast, but is a very clear and thorough lecturer and loves to answer questions. Do everything to review for the exam that he puts on the review checklist. Go to SI. His tests are very difficult but he does curve. I got a 48 on one test and that was still a C with the curve.
