He does have a different teaching style some people dont like but he gives you all the information you need for the material in his class. I found his teaching very helpful. You'll have to work fairly hard for his class but I thought it was worth it

I'd definitely recommend taking one of Dr. Zijlstra's classes. Calculus 2 has a reputation of being pretty challenging but his teaching style made it very manageable. There's lots of helpful examples in class and in the homework, and the tests are usually modified versions of the homework. Very helpful teacher, I would take again.

Great professor who explains the material in a way that makes it really easy to follow along. He expects that his students have a good understanding of calculus 1. Lots of homework but he always makes sure you have everything you need to solve the problem. He often attaches his own notes to the homework as well which was pretty helpful.

He was not the best professor. He just stands up at the board and talks the whole time. He also was pretty rude to some people that asked questions.

Dr. Z is a great prof, although he expects you to begin his 3120 class with a thorough understanding of Calculus. I thought he did a complete job of explaining new material, but if you missed a class or did not pay attention to a few key things your grade could easily slip.

By far, this is the worst prof I have ever had the displeasure of having at MTSU. No clear grading criteria, snarky and rude comments, favoritism, and tons upon tons of packets are all you'll find here. Grades homework mercilessly. Makes the coursework far more difficult than it ever needed to be. Try to avoid this man at all costs!

Dr Z is a tough teacher but he makes sure you know the material. Study guides are the same format as tests but the tests are usually a little harder. He is always willing to help. He hates dumb questions but if you pay attention and do the homework you shouldn't have any dumb questions since he goes into great detail. I plan to take him again.

This teacher is very narrow minded in his views. he is very bad at Teaching new concepts in class. Also on tests he grades unfairly if you make the same mistake as someone else you may loose way more points so try to get on his good side.

I personally liked Dr. Zijlstra's class. I liked the way he explained the material, it was easy for me to follow. There are a lot of grade opportunities. There will be five tests and a final. He gives study guides before each test which is pretty similar to the actual test (some questions are the same). There is also online and other homework.

He is an AMAZING calculus profressor. If you try your best in his class, hell definitely notice. Take advantage of his office hours. He told me before the semester started calculus 3 is a b**** WELL IT IS but still, expect to study a lot and learn a lot. Hes better than most math profressors.

Zijlstra was a nightmare. he says hes open to questions but either refuses to answer or belittles whoever asked it for not knowing. I know it wasn't the students's faults because most of the class (including myself) had made an A in calculus 1, and 2 the previous semester. he doesn't teach whats on the test or the homework. I ended up dropping it.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM. There were MORE 2 homework assignments due every week, and you're teaching yourself all of the material. His lectures are useless because he doesn't explain actual concepts. I tried going to his office hours, but he was never there. If you have a question, save it to yourself.

This professor is extremely rude, unhelpful. He is always late, he can not answer questions. He is never in his office during office hours. It is highly unethical to ignore students the way he does. His explanations are often wrong, and mostly useless. I doubt he understands what he is talking about and he definitely has no concept of teaching.

Hard HW that requires going to class to solve half of them and the other half you will not solve be able to completely solve even using resources online, in the book, or his office hours. He is a very tough grader. He comes late to class everyday and then held us 10 minutes after, making me late for my next class. Sadly only 280 char to complain.

Dr. Zijlstra is probably one of the WORST math professors at MTSU. DO NOT believe him when he says the sample test the day before the actual test will be similar. The sample test is 10 times easier than what you'll see on actual test days. He practically expects you to know Calculus before entering the class. Expect little explanation of work.

Comment:
This professor is not an expert in mathematics, also not at teaching it. He skips steps assuming that everyone should know, and then insults the class for asking questions. Exams are the only graded items you receive, and theyre difficult. He takes off random points for errors," even though you get the right answer!
