Xu is the man. His lectures are a bit tedious to sit through sometimes but he gives plenty of examples. All my confusions about a section/chapter were cleared up when he went over past HW (also tedious but he's very lenient when grading it). Quizzes and exams are open-note. He goes pretty fast though so you just have to keep up. But he's awesome.

He is quite good, gives all information you need in lectures. (dont buy textbook, hell give a pdf). he sometimes gets a bit ahead of himself but is more than willing to go back if somebody hasn't gotten something. He made CS foundation a breeze, highly suggest.

Professor Xu is a very difficult professor. His lectures are very dry and almost impossible to sit through. He gives out homework every week and is due a week after assigned. Xu knows the subject very well, but doesn't know how to explain correctly. I've had him for Foundations and Princ. Dig. and the results are the same for both.

Great professor, very intelligent. Unfortunately, he doesn't make it easy on anybody. He will make sure that you cover the entirety of the textbook even if it means cramming quizzes in. Lots of quizzes, mostly conceptual. Unlike many professors his exams are harder than anything you've done in the class and often very long. Study hard.

Best advise I can give anyone ever: never take this professor for any class other than principles and that's because he's the ONLY professor for some terrible reason. I use the term "teaches" lightly, it's more like regurgitating information on the board and doesn't seem interested in teaching student WHY they're learning the material. Do not take

Xu is an alright professor. Not great, but alright. His handwriting is horrible. He will do that thing where he misses the words that help make sentences flow better. The class is basically how to write MIPS assembly soooo if you do the homework you can do his quizzes and therefore his test. Not hard, just tedious.

Goes very quickly and is a harsh grader. Discourages questions by always declaring that the material is simple. Doesn't ever really give pause for questions to be asked anyway.

Very hard to read handwriting, and all his notes are written on the board. Only uses computer for some homework assignments. Grades only two or three problems from homework then bases whole grade on it. If you get one problem wrong you're already at an 80. Do not take him.

Xu is a great professor. Thorough, and assigns a workload that is proportional to the credit hours of the course. Straightforward and understanding if you need to turn something in late. A+

One of the best CS professors in the department. Really knows his stuff. Tests and assignments are not too hard. Easy to pass so long as you come to class and pay attention. Unfortunately he's so boring. Also, can go through material too quickly. Luckily, he thoroughly reviews the material before any exams. Recommended.

Had Xu for 3 classes (PrincDigiComp, CompVision, OS), 2 of them were all open book / notes tests and quizes (OS was closed tests). Writes a lot of notes on the board. As long as you blindly copy his notes word for word, you can be completely lost (or not pay attention) and you can just teach yourself the material later (via your copied notes), that

He is soooooo easy. He will practically give you the answer if you ask a question. If you know the assignment you can leave after 10-15 minutes. Little homework. Accent can be distracting, but not badly. Very funny. Take his class!!!!!

Sort of a dry tone of voice, but was very determined to teach us the subject. He's very helpful if you go to him for help, and he's very clear about what will be on his quizzes and exams.

Moves very very fast. By the time you finish copying one board, he's filled up another. Very dry lectures. A homework is due every class and he grades them, worth 20% of your final grade. Midterm and Final are the only other grades aside from a few quizzes. I would have taken a logic class before this guy to help understand the material better.

He is very easy and very helpful. If you have trouble with a program he walks you though it and almost writes it for you. Can get boring at times, but you can even leave in early during the lab classes. He's a cool professor and not hard on anyone for anything.

Doesn't give too much homework. Not too hard to understand. Quizzes can be slightly challenging. You can get done the labs within the 75 minute period. If you ask him for help he will basically tell you exactly what to do and then explain to you what you did wrong; really helpful. I would definitely take him again.

Outlines class right from the first day. Homework is light, but still there. Programs due when homework is not. Pop Quizes are usualy easy if you know what you are doing and are open notes. Midterm and Final can kill you if you don't know what you are doing. Allowed one sheet of notes for each exam. Do your work! Don't Skip Class! got C+

Labs are somewhat easy in the beggining, then they get rediculous at the end. Doesn't really teach the maaterial. He just writes programs on the board and we copy them basically. Tests are all writing programs which creates possible disatrous errors and bad grades. Not really recommended.
