Dr. Doyle was a great professor! The class itself was challenging, but if you go to class and study you will do well. Dr. Doyle cares a lot about her students, but does expect you to work hard. There are 3 exams and a final along with in-class group activities and a few homework assignments. No exams are dropped, but there is extra credit!

Dr. Doyle was great, but her class was pretty hard. Most of your grade is determined by 3 exams and a final. The material is quite hard, but she does all she can to help you understand. Was very accommodating when we switched to online classes and recorded her lectures which was a great help. If you can, take her!!

Graded by 4 exams, a handful of group work, 5% online homework. She's nice, class wasn't hard. The 3rd exam was literally a GROUP EXAM. She's very understanding of the fact that most of her students are reading at a 5th grade level and manages to make accommodations when teaching complex concepts such as protein targeting.

Did not use textbook at all, waste of $150. Only real use for that was for the online stuff which was only 5% of overall grade.

If you miss one class, participation grade bombs your overall grade by at least 5%. Tests are TOO specific (i.e. wording). PASS leader was awful, literally went through charges of different atoms for two hours and that wasn't even on the first exam. Flies by the lectures fast as if this was review for the class and does not slow down or review

Dr. Doyle is probably the best choice for bio140. She has really clear lecture notes, gives you extra credit opportunities, and puts a lot on clicker questions. Her tests are challenging, some questions are comprehensive, but some are straight from practice material. I had a good PASS leader which really helped. Everything was in notes or book

Dr. Doyle is very very sweet and I really think she's a great person. She really wants her students to do well. Homework is very light, the pass sessions really help, however. The tests are SOOOOOOOO HARD. They are 25 questions and are really really really hard, like the hardest tests I have taken here. Lab isn't bad but can take a while.

Doyle is such a sweetheart. Lectures are clear, and she tells you what you need to know for the exam. Clicker quizzes every day, but they aren't hard. She often says "does that make sense?" which can get annoying, but she is doing it to make sure she is helping you. Has group "case studies" that are tedious, but they help you with the material.

The best bio 140 professor you'll find. JMU isnt really know for its science department so dont expect them to have stellar professors in science classes. Its rare. Youll need to learn how to self-study.

Although I received an A for this class, I had to work my butt off. Reading the textbook is a must. I wrote up 4-5 hours of notes per chapter (12 chapters) which is broken up into 4 exams (including the final), so roughly 3 chapters worth per exam. I would write up the notes week before and review the powerpoints the day before which REALLY helped!

She's super enthusiastic and quirky. I didn't get too much out of lecture but she gives you her slides and between that and the book, you know everything you need for exams. They really aren't too hard, not much memorization, mostly concepts. Class is kind of mandatory because of clickers, but she gives SOO much extra credit

AMAZING. It's a tough class but take it with her, you'll have to put in some work but learn alot. Show up. Lots of extra credit and clicker questions. Tests are tricky but not impossible. She goes a little fast in lecture but reading the tb helps connects the dots.

Dr. Doyle makes it impossible to get an A in bio 140. She makes her tests super tricky by making you just focus on the wording not the actual concept. She is also rude to students and makes them feel stupid for asking questions. She's also the coordinator for lab and she made the final the hardest thing ever. I learned nothing in her class.

Prof Doyle is very knowledgeable about what she teaches. She teaches strictly with PP slides which I prefer, but the amount of information is a lot. The exams are multiple choice, super tough and very much detailed. She does clicker attendance every lecture, which can help pull your grade up a bit. Plus lab grade counts 40% towards Bio grade.

I wouldn't recommend taking Liz unless you're really passionate about biology. What she says in lectures vs what the textbook says are two different things, and then she would test you on what the textbook said. She also calls 10 second YouTube clips "movies" and she talks super monotone the whole time, so it's really hard to stay awake.

Class was very difficult, there was tons of information but the tests only had some specific more difficult material. The tests were generally very very hard and required extensive knowledge of the information. My saving grace was that lecture and lab grades were combined so try hard in lab to balance out your lecture grade if needed.

Good 'ol Liz Doyle. She is the clicker queen so do not miss class. Tests are very tricky you really need to study for them. For a gen ed she made it harder than it needed to be. She never curved because of honors kids in our class (very annoying). All Bio 140 profs are not great. She's hip to youtube and finds funny vids to show us sometimes.

Professor Doyle is a good professor. She reads from her slides but her passion for biology makes it at least a little interesting. Don't take this if you want an easy A. If you want that A you have to study a fair amount and pay attention in class. She is very nice and cares about your success so go see her in office hours! Would take her again!
