Comment:
The worst professor I've had to date. Impossible to get a hold of. While the assignments aren't tough, his exams are terrible. On top of that he has a complete lack of respect toward his students, clearly echoed below. The university should seriously reconsider this decision of having him represent the programs.

I would not recommend this professor. One of the worst I've had to date. He is very condescending to the students. Material is not difficult, but don't rely on him to provide good answers. One word to describe him, rude.

Pretty much the worst lecturer you can imagine. Tests are very poorly worded and theory-based and no time to answer. Very tough grader and never polite in his responses, dont bother reaching out to him. Would not recommend anyone to take any course he teaches. Make it seem he only does this for an easy paycheck since hes never available to reach.

Whitman is the worst professor Ive ever had. Hes extremely tough on both the paper and the midterm and final. Never had to study so much in my life and get such a low grade, as was the same for the majority of the class. Hes tenured so the university cant get rid of him and he allows himself to get away with condescending and insulting language

Comment:
Very unprofessional and rude professor. Half the class dropped this course after the midterm. Exams are terribly difficult and very poorly worded. He proves little no assistance. Any reaching out to him appears to be a huge nuisance. Doesnt like phone calls or face meetings. Historical and current students will repeat the overall consensus, avoid.

Took as a summer class. It was tough. Start your projects (3) as early as possible. Video lectures provided. The Mindtap study aids help a lot. He expects work to be submitted on time and in the proper format. Severe penalties if not. I would take him again now that I know what I'm in for. He's trying to prepare you for your career.

Comment:
Extremely rude, refuses to answer questions about assignments, no exceptions made for technical difficulties. At least half of the class dropped before academic penalty, including me. I studied for the midterm more than I've ever studied for any test and made a low C. I dropped to save my 4.0 and escape being talked down to and insulted.

Comment:
Hard class because of the content, but very clear and fair grading guidelines. Put in the work on the projects, ask questions where appropriate, and pay attention to the lectures and you should be fine. The exams are done online in a lockdown browser, so make sure you've studied well.

The projects are very relevant to real-life if you're in the industry. Projects are also time-intensive. Do not procrastinate otherwise you'll be in a world of hurt. You don't get much personal feedback. But he does answer questions online if you have them.

Comment:
The mid-term/finals are very difficult. Prepare to distinguish what is included or not included as part of a term's definition. The project is easy, but time-consuming. Definitely budget your time and don't wait for the last minute. It takes at least a full 8 hours to accomplish each section of the project. Attendance was not checked. All online.

Took him for IS 8310 online. Despite the fact that he is a tough grader I didn't think that he was too bad, especially since there were only 4 assignments and the final and you had the whole semester to do them. IS 8940, however, I had to drop because I had trouble finding a good topic for the two 5000 word research papers that we had to do

I didn't even have to be in a real life class to get that Whitman is only doing this for a paycheck. His class is nothing but a lot of long papers that you're expected to take hours out of your time to do only for him to grade them in minutes. Aka busy work.

Comment:
Professor Whitman assigns ridiculously long assignments that are 100% busy work. I learned nothing useful from his project except how to reiterate myself again and again. The course material, or at least the way he teaches it, is very dry and boring. I cant believe that I paid to take this class.

I'll admit, I wasn't enthused about this guy's class when I started it. I have to say, though, he graded fairly, knew his stuff and I actually ended up learning something.

Not a bad class. Boring, but crucial to business. Lots of typing. He made the course easier to "manage" than previous classes by removing redundant parts of the final project. His templates are out of date, that is my only complaint.

What's with this guy thinking he owns the world? His assignments are insane and students rarely see this guy in person (that's probably a good thing). Writing all those papers did not help me land a job in IT, in fact it made me hate IT for that semester. This guy is the rotten seed in the pumpkin patch of ISA professors.

This professor needs to quit teaching. His lecture style is to read the book he wrote. He is "always right" so don't ask questions or question him. He does not instruct so much as read his book to you. He is susceptible to kissing up and flattery. He is the department chair so there will be no appealing his style/grades

I think something happens to Dr. Whitman in the past few years. He doesn't want to teach anymore. He assigns massive papers that the directions were written up by former students. He does not read the papers at all. The only one worse to take than Dr. Whitman is Andy Green. Those two have ruined the ISA program at KSU.

He has a serious attitude problem. He tells students that they are rude on the discussion board and then is the meanest I have ever seen in his response. The workload is slightly excessive. He clearly does not want to be teaching and never responds to students. However, the material is good and useful if you can get past his attitude.
