I don't think he's a bad guy. Seriously, how do you teach a classroom of 240 students. Most of which are constantly on their cellphones, laptops or talking. The TA's have to act like bouncers just to keep everything under control. Great class, but 240 people is just way too much! It would be better with a smaller number

This class is not an easy a, but it is very possible to get an a if you study. Tests are straight from his notes. Don't need textbooks. TAKE AS A PLURALISM if you don't like history. This is much better in my opinion. Listening quizzes are tough if you start the day before. One paper, get an a as long as you include all the main points.

This class is not an easy a which is what a lot of people think going into it. Tests are non cumulative, curved, and based on in class notes. The textbooks are not needed at all. Go to the lectures, and take good notes. Yes, you actually have to study them to get an A, but you'll do really well if you study

Class is a waste of time, 4 listening quizzes and 3 exams. The time it takes to study for these is enough for 2 or more classes. If you just want an A gen ed, go for a Cinema class.

He is so excited about the subject matter that you get excited too. However, he then changes subject, goes on a five minute tangent, and comes back before you realize what happened. This class would be easier if he organized his thoughts beforehand, and spoke a little slower. It is very interesting though, and if you attend lecture its doable.

Lalli has been my favorite professor this semester. I'm in his Jazz history class, and it is very clear that it is a topic he is both passionate and knowledgable about. It has been a great semester, and his class is structured well. Overall, he is a great teacher and you will enjoy any course you take with him.

Lalli is an amazing teacher. He's very passionate about teaching and music! Make sure to memorize the 60 songs early for each of the 3 tests. Go to every class and take notes. There is one paper but it was the easiest paper I've ever written in my life.

The class is not as easy or as interesting as it should be. It was actually pretty boring. Seriously, don't bother getting the books--they're not necessary to do well in the class. In fact, the exams are based on in-class notes entirely. Don't get them unless you have a serious interest in the subject and/or spending 100 bucks!

Lalli is engaging and passionate. I had no music experience so it wasnt super easy, but by skimming the notes and going to class I did well. Listening quizzes are part of the test now and are ok if you start listening a week before the test. Biggest negative is that his handwriting is completely illegible. I write better with my toes.

The class is easy, but you have to attend and take notes, because it isn't covered in the textbook, and notes aren't available online. Study the notes and you'll get an A. Don't bother getting the textbooks; I didn't open either one the entire semester. Lalli is nice, but tries to act "hip," and it makes him hard to take seriously.

AMAZING class for anyone interested in learning about popular music. Starts off easy but gets pretty challenging, i.e. you have to memorize info about 40 different songs for a few quizzes. Tests are simple if you take good notes and textbooks are COMPLETELY unnecessary. If you love music, this is a great way to expand your musical knowledge.

Claims to curve exams to an 85 in his syllabus but pretty sure he did not. Not an easy A as exams test detailed knowledge. The quizzes are easy if you study a little. Textbooks are pointless. First exam is easy because he gives you notes, but last two exams are hard. Notes are from his handwriting which are IMPOSSIBLE to read.

Took Jazz with Lalli. Incredibly knowledgeable prof. Presents topics in an understandable way. Easy if you have music background. Tests are fair, solid studying will give you an A. Tests curved. 1 Paper, 4 quizes, 2 concert reports, midterm and final. I definitely recommend taking this course.

Extremely easy class especially if you have a musical background. Curves tests, no textbooks needed. Excellent class for the P Gened. Lalli is awesome, very into what he does, typical crazy laid-back musician who just wants you to do well in the class and enjoy it. I highly recommend!

He's very knowledgeable about his class, and very passionate and I admire that greatly! However, he was awful at asking technical questions you had about the class, and never e-mailed me back. I explained to him I didn't have a computer to study for a listening quiz and he sort of just blew me off. He's an interesting man, though.

Lalli is the man! Go to class and take detailed notes: you need to write down more than he does. The quizzes require some memorization, but the tests require a bit more understanding. (Also, the tests get easier!) The material was fun and different, and the class had an upbeat atmosphere.

Great guy, great and easy class. Go to lecture and filter out the irrelevant tangents he goes on. For quizzes, you get full credit within 2 years: USE THIS. The tests are simple with ridiculous curves. Don't buy the books, he posts PDFs of anything you need.

Very knowledgeable about the subject. Played songs as examples and was interesting. As long as you listen in class and take notes you'll find you remember most of the material on the tests. Quizzes were hard, he plays a song from a huge list you have to memorize and you have to write artist, song name, genre, and year.

Anyone who complains prob never came to class/didnt study. Nice to come out of a class with knowledge that i care about.
