Comment:

Dr. Mounts is extremely rigid and has adopted a completely ambiguous and subjective grading system. Provides vague feedback and it seems as if she doesn't even know what she wants in papers. Makes students feel "lesser than" and inferior. If possible, I would avoid taking classes with Dr. Mounts as it is just unneeded stress.

Comment:

If you have a chance take Dr. Mounts. She is one of the best prof I have ever had. Very detailed lectures and incredibly passionate. If you show up, participate and complete the readings you can pass. If you don't show up and don't participate don't be surprised if you get a bad grade. She gives extra credit and posts study guides for the exams.

Comment:

Professor Mounts is pretty good. Sometime she let the class get off topic but other than that the grading criteria was very clear. I liked how she linked real life situations to the material we were learning. As long as you read the chapters and do the test reviews before the tests you will easily pass the class. Also there are a lot of XTRA credit

Comment:

I took Dr. Mounts PSYC 495 course and it was an easy A. It was mainly writing a discussion paper that had be two pages and them a final project that was easy as well. This course was easy and Dr. Mounts made it very enjoyable. Just out in the effort in those discussion papers and you'll get an A in the class.

Dr. Mounts is an amazing professor. In her class there is a ton of information the she goes over. However for her test you do need to read the book because there is some information from the book that will be on the test. Her test consist of multiple choice and free response. Overall if you attend class and study you pass with an A.

Dr. Mounts is the best teacher to take for your first PSYC lab. Every week you work on a different section of the final research paper so all you have to do is revise it at the end of the semester. Test are incredibly easy if you go to class and write down what she says. Gives extra credit which are also questions on the exam. Great teacher.

Terrible! I had no choice but to take her. She ruined my amazing gpa. If the average of her exams are in the low 70s... you would think she would change the way she does things. You need to memorize every line in every chapter of the book to pass her exams. Don't miss one line in he book because it WILL be on the exam. Avoid her if you can!

Dr. Mounts is a good teacher and she's very knowledgeable about her field, but you'll definitely have to work for that A. She's very nice and explains everything clearly, but you still had to take good notes.

Class was ridiculously graded. Essay questions on tests must be answered perfectly to get any points. She doesn't post her powerpoints, which are useless anyways. The average grade for the final was around a 50. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

You have to take good notes and definitely make sure you buy the book. I did not and I struggled all semester. She is useless to ask help with because she just makes you feel stupid when you do and is vague with her answers. I worked 4 hours on a project forgot one detail and got a 50% on it. Class isnt impossible but I would NOT recommend.

Comment:

She has given me an attitude from the first day of class. I missed 2 classes, 1 for car problems, the other for a car accident. After the car accident I asked if I could email a paper to her & she gave me an attitude & treated me like a kid. It feels like we are being set up to fail. I would not recommend her to anyone. She is the worst professor!

Comment:

Dr. Mounts was one of my favorite professors at NIU. Comparitively, her classes were more difficult, but not impossible. Also, if you complete the study guides for the tests, read the text, and go to class, you should do fine.

She is the worst teacher at NIU!! The test are very hard and she seems to grade in favor of students she likes. Make sure if you take her class you are ready for a bad grade cause no matter what you do very few people will get above a C, even if you show up everyday and ask questions like I did. DO WHAT EVER YOU CAN NOT TO TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!!

The class is not extremely hard but its nearly impossible to get an A. The exams are really hard and she gives a six page study guide for the final! This final is going to be awful, and its not just the essays that are hard, MPC ridiculous. Lectures are really boring.

The key to this class is GOING and taking really good notes. If you do that, you'll be okay on the tests, but they're definately not easy. The problem with this class is the amount of writing (A LOT) and the TA grades really easy, and then the teacher grades REALLY hard. But we did some fun activities (watch kids play through 1sided mirror, etc)

This course should be coded 'Studies in Passive Aggression 424'.Though she might seem mousy, her other side comes through in tests. Study the book's web site for MC questions, but it still won't help you on the 'final from hell'. I HAVE to question how accurately she can grade over 50 short answer/essay tests in 2 days. Answer: she doesn't.

uhh actually when the class average is 63 I think that is a reflection of the teacher... she's awful! I studied forever and still only got a C in both of her classes.

My major problem w/ her was her multiple choice questions on exams. They were very hard because they were often tiny details from the book instead of main topics. The rest of each exam isn't bad, but the m.c. can really screw you up. She's nice, but she didn't do a great job explaining the information & concepts.
