Comment:

10/10 recommend taking this class. Chasteen is a great professor. He's never boring. He has a great sense of humor. He gives online quizzes after every class period but they are really beneficial. He's easy to talk to as well. If you don't understand something, ask. I wish he taught Gen Chem II.

Comment:

Chasteen is a great professor, he cares for his students and always help when you need to. His quizzes are untimed so take your time to do them carefully. His tests are all short answers so it may not be easy for some people but if you pay attention in class and do the optional homework, you'll be fine. Come to the TA section is also a good help.

He is an amazing professor. I had never taken a chemistry course in HS and i managed to understand every concept in the class. He gives homework every class but it really does help you learn the material better. His test are semi-difficult but if you study you will pass with at least a C. He is very animated which makes his class fun. Take Him!

Comment:

I enjoyed this class. He is very passionate about this subject. Class discussions are highly encouraged and he will call you out if you do not contribute. However, as environmental chemistry is commonly centered in a fair amount of modern political debate and current events, discussion and interest in the topic is far from difficult. Essay tests.

Really helpful teacher, love the way he taught the class. Expect online assignment after every class, due before the next class. Will ask at the beginning of class of anyone had any questions. Do not fall behind on the quizes and read online lectures because some questions on quizes come straight from them.

Probably the best chemistry teacher I've ever had! For anyone who has trouble with chemistry I would definitely recommend him. Lots of online homework, but if you keep on top of it, its exactly what will be on his tests! If its obvious that the class isn't getting the material, he'll stop the lecture and work on it with us! Overall Wonderful Prof!

Definition of a GREAT professor! Really wish he taught Gen Chem II. His teaching methods are very helpful and he prepares you for the tests by assigning online quizzes. Definitely recommend him over ANYONE. I would have made an A if I tried a little harder, but came out with a B. Made a 100 on his final.

I wish with every bone in my body that Dr. Chasteen taught gen chem II. I absolutely LOVED his class. Dr. Chasteen helps students help themselves, and he designs his course in such a way that requires students to interact with the material each day. This course is structured to help students succeed if they work for it, and his lectures are A+.

I absolutely love Dr. Chasteen and his teaching style, he makes it a fun and interesting . If you don't take his advice and do the practice problems from the book (not required) and the quizzes (are required) then failure is in your future. His tests are handwritten, he is very helpful & he wants you to be successful the book is a must!

Took Dr. Chasteen's Air Quality class Spring 2013 and it was a tough class but its expected since it was a senior level chem course. He was an excellent professor and i recommend him but prepare to actually take the time to learn the material his test for this class was all essay.

Good prof, very hard. Requires lot of dedication. Tons of reading (book + online lessons.) At least 2 quizzes due before each class. Good idea, but there is a cutoff that goes up after every exam. You fail the quiz if you don't make that cutoff. He's funny, though, I really enjoyed going to his class.

He's a great teacher. The daily quizzes are a good thing. It's is a tough class, and they give you practice on what you need to pass. Very energetic, and helpful. Make a point to go to his office. One complaint: He is vocal on political, religion, and social opinions that are best left out of the class room. I would still recommend him though.

He is great! I believe that many of the people who rate him poorly have yet to take Norman or Loeffler. He is funny, helpful, and my favorite of the Chemistry department as a whole. TAKE HIM!!!

He is definitely a hippie and SUPER energetic, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He quizzes get annoying because there's at least one due before every class. The only thing that really was a bummer was you can only miss three classes, before he drops you a letter grade.
