He isn't a hard professor. Dr. B expects his students to always do their best work. Every class, notes are taken (mostly for the entire lecture). Questions are always welcome, and this will also break up the note-taking. Review material from previous lectures beforehand, ask questions if you have them, put in the effort, and you should be fine.

Just take notes. Graded on 4 multiple choice tests & a final. The tests are based off lectures. Some questions arent from lecture, so go over the practice reviews at end of each chapter in book & do the nongraded quizzes (can have same questions from test). Never have phone visible or on. Assumes everyone is animal major & knows answers to his ?s.

Dr Bortnick is the worst professor i've ever had. he once asked a question to the class and no one answered, he freaked out and ended class early. the next day in lab he asked the same question and told us we had 3mins to figure it out or he was going to give us a pop-quiz that not even himself could pass. be aware he yells a lot.

I had him for botany and it was one of my hardest classes. From what I understand is he is okay for Bio Sci. I did not have him for Bio Sci but all i can confirm is he makes you WORK for your grade in botany. Do not expect to be friendly with him although he does appreciate you being confident and not nervous to ask him a question.

He can be very rude and once told my class that if u fail the class u should consider dropping out of college. There are two papers due in the course and he said the average grade is an F. He allows you to submit it early for review but even if he reviews it you probably wont get a 100%. He did curve the final grade in the end which was respectable

Comment:
Dr. Bortnick flies through lecture. He goes through information so fast and wont slow down. He covers a topic once and expects you to know everything about it soon as you learn it. He also asks many questions during lecture about stuff from previous lectures or just stuff he "thinks" you should and then gets mad if you dont know what hes asking.

Dr Bortnick makes you work very hard for a passing grade. For botany there was two projects that required you to come to lab outside of class time 2-4 times a week. He can be rude and make you feel stupid for asking a question. If he feels you should know the answer he wont tell you and make you figure it out or if not threatens a pop quiz.

Lectures are jam packed with lots of engaging and interesting information and notes are something you'll be doing constantly. Exams are difficult unless studied for a lot. Essays are unfairly graded and you'll get an instant zero if you don't format it correctly and both essays are 50 points. Turn in your essays early for review if you want to pass

Literally just come to class EVERY TIME and take notes. You will get no homework, and your grade will be based on 4 exams and the final. You do not need the textbook so don't spend the money on it. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE OR YOU WILL BE DROPPED A LETTER GRADE. He is easy to understand. He's truly a great teacher and wants everyone to succeed.

Dr. Bortnick is one of the best professors on this campus. To those bashing him on this website, IGNORE THEM. Most of them that are bashing him either ask stupid questions or genuinely do not care if they pass or fail, unlike Dr. Bortnick. He's a great professor and actually cares if you pass or fail. Just study. Literally. That's it.

Use the textbook to study and study a lot!! He's pretty funny and you don't have to show up, but his tests are difficult. He's a good professor to take if you would rather teach yourself the material because you can teach yourself from the textbook, but still go in to ask questions and get things clarified. Don't take if you're going to slack!!

He is a good person if you talk to him but not the best professor. If you just study his notes you will barely pass the tests. All of his tests are 50 questions multiple choice and the final is cumulative which is nice but his class is very hard and if you miss a test you are screwed. Don't even think about bringing your phone to class.

He is a difficult professor. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. You have to work like crazy to really earn your grade. His only real downfall is his condescending attitude. If you ask a question in class he will make a point of making you a laughing stock of the class and then finally answers the original question.

He does not post the notes on blackboard. I understand that he wants us to come to him for help outside of class, but Not everyone has time for that. Also, I find that he can be VERY intimidating, and often rude, so I do not want to see him outside of class. He is very passionate about his teachings, but skips over questions he deems "stupid".

He is a very hard grader. He's a pretty funny guy and really wants to help you if you actually show you care. Try to go to class as much as possible or at least make sure you get the notes. The tests are straight from the notes and relatively straightforward if you study before the night before. Overall the course is manageable if you do your work.

Dr. Bortnick can be very intimidating and makes you really work for your grade. However, he is passionate about what he teaches and really wants students to do well. Asking him questions and seeing him outside of class gets you on his good side. Exams aren't too hard but you have to really study notes and do not save it for the night before exam.

Comment:
Bortnick does not post PowerPoints to view outside of class, he only posts study guides for exams. The grade for the class comes solely from the exams, no other homework, quizzes, participation, etc.. He is available outside of class for questions, and is very helpful with answering questions.
