Don't take this class if you don't want to learn Karate. It's frustrating for some when there are those around looking for easy A's. Certain days will wear you out, others wont, depends on what you do. Sensei Martin focuses on Spirit more than skill, as long as you show you have a desire to improve he will help you. Learn the Japanese phraseology.

Tries to avoid answering questions, very aloof, won't reply to emails. Be careful if you sign up for Karate 1 & 2 - only one of the classes will count towards your earned hours (both count toward GPA) since all Karate classes are listed as PHED 1620 the AU Registrar says they are the same class. Easy A.

He's pretty cool. I really enjoyed the class. I learned a lot, got my yellow belt (which is cool) and it really was a great class. No book, no real final, just the yellow belt test. His feet really kind of bothered me though... they were kind of swollen looking. I think it's a karate thing...

This is by far my favorite class ever! It's sometimes hard to hear what he's saying because he speaks so softly, but he's a freakin awesome guy. Some people take it as an easy A, but it's just fun to take anyway. Not only that, what he teaches you are also good skills to have in life. I wish that I had this class every day. :)

This dude is freakin AWESOME! Fantastic JIKC karate teacher. He absolutely loves karate. Cracks jokes all the time. Gives you unlimited retries on your online midterm. I got a 93 on my first try.

Comment:

Sensai Martin is a supurb teacher of Karate. This is a must take if you need or want a physical ed credit / class. The costs are low compared to other rec. classes and you learn somthing that can be very helpful in anything you do.
