Comment:
One of the most stressful teachers I've ever had. During corona he didn't post any material for two weeks after spring break and then loads us with material. He gave us 7 hours of video lectures to learn and do quizzes on during EXAM WEEK. Very unprofessional overall.

If you take a class with Dr. Gilchrist you will regret it. He is terribly disorganized. This semester he crammed two weeks worth of lectures into one week because he waited too late in the semester to post online lectures. That 1 week was finals week! His quizzes and exams are confusing because they contain numerous spelling and grammatical errors.

Dr. Gilchrist is very knowledgeable about the material, but very unorganized. He post the study guides, test and quizzes all at the last minute. So, it makes it difficult to prepare. Attending class is a must to pass! He does offer extra credit but it is a bit time consuming. Also, takes the whole class to cover maybe 4 slides.

Spends the whole class period talking about one slide so he has to compensate by posting "online lectures" which are lengthy and confusing. Changes up due dates and material a lot. The tests are hard even though they are online. Quizzes are ok. Kind of passive agressive in emails which is unhelpful.

Physiology is really just a tough class in general. Gilchrist tries to make the material relatable in his lectures and he also makes a lot of jokes to keep class interesting. He's a great guy but he's also disorganized which can be a bit frustrating when due dates are constantly changing.

Professor Gilchrist is a really nice guy; however, he's just a bad teacher. He was the most unorganized professor I've ever had. The tests weren't terrible but his final for whatever reason was so hard (or so I thought). I ended up doing fine in the class but I was just really frustrated the whole semester. Coming from Lancaster to him is rough.

Good professor and funny guy. He knows what he is talking about, but he is very unorganized. He changes things up with little notice, but it is still doable (most college professors do this). Nothing crazy, but you have to work for an A.

Biggest disappointment during my time at UAB. Very unorganized. Abruptly changes what is going to be on the test days before. Uploads things last minute. Changing due dates unexpectedly. Rushes at the end to get through everything. Lectures are ALL over the place. Great guy, terrible instructor.

Such a nice man, but a horrible professor. He is VERY unorganized. Quizzes you on material never covered or mentioned, but tests are easy. Very easy to talk to outside of class. He is not very clear on what material you will be tested on or not. I would not take this class with him again.

I loved the course and thought the material was interesting, however Gilchrist is one of the worst professors I have had. He is very unorganized and nobody knows what he is talking about during lecture. He runs out of time in lecture and uploads audio lectures of what he didn't cover. He is very forgetful and doesn't know how to use Canvas either

Dr. Gilchrist is an amazing professor, and really cares about his students. He tries very hard to make his lectures entertaining and interesting, because he knows it's a lot of material. He is very approachable outside of class if you need any extra help. Record the lectures, and relisten to them while you go over your notes, and you'll be fine.

As long as you study the material, you should be fine. If you choose not to go to class every day then at least listen to his online lectures and take detailed notes. He does have an easy opportunity to earn extra credit which will boost your grade. Just remember, if you put in the effort, you will get the grade you want!

Dr Gilchrist is a seriously seriously good teacher. If you get below a B in his class, it's your fault. It's a lot of application. Applying acid/base and fluid metabolism. Some genetics, but you I've learned more about medicine in his class than anything else. Plus he knows how to present the material. Keep up with the material.

Record his lectures and take excellent notes. Study this material a couple hours every day. This is how you get an A and I promise tests will be a breeze for you. Dr. Gilchrist is an amazing professor and I learned a lot from his class. I really appreciate the time and effort he put into his lectures, they were wonderful.

He is very passionate, but he is not always the best with planning in advance, however he is very flexible. He will offer to move tests back if he thinks it will help. He gives lots of info, not all of which is on the test, & sometimes you can't tell what is important because of the way he teaches. But, he gives you extra credit & quizzes are fine.

The class itself was really interesting and he did a great job of keeping lectures engaging. Tests are tough if you don't go to class. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ONLINE LECTURES AND ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THEM, he goes back over information in these that are usually a majority of the tests. He gives a couple opportunities for extra credit toward the end.

A lot of people think that this class is really hard but the professor is great and if you actually go to class and take notes and study then you will do fine! The material is tough but it is very interesting! I ever did the blue prints or opened my textbook. I just studied his review lectures and my notes and did fine.

Not an easy class, studying is a must: don't get behind! He makes lectures interesting and explains everything well. Would recommend recording lectures. Lab is pretty fun at times. There is a bonus project at the end of the semester worth 15 test points (a lot because there are three tests). Find a study group to talk through concepts with!

I really enjoyed this class. I was already excited for the material but he has made it better. He can get sidetracked in lecture but if you go to class and take notes you will do fine. His test are really easy if you study.
