Literally plays the imperial march on his phone as he walks down the hall checking everyone's shoes. I can still hear his voice, "goggles and apron on for the duration." Ask him about his pet birds. As for the lab, show up and do your work and its an easy A. He never graded the reports until finals week though. Always responds super quickly to emai

Always go to lab. It's an easy class as long as you show up. Be sure to befriend your lab partner and people around you because that's the biggest help. This class is taught by TA's who basically just sign off on your procedures and report sheet to be sure you actually came to class. The quizzes are not too bad as long as you read the experiment.

Don't ever miss a lab! The labs are super easy. Just make sure you submit chem21 correctly. The canvas quizzes are really hard so I suggest getting a group together to take them.. & they're all different. The chem lab final wasn't bad!

Great guy, very funny. Most grading is done through the chem21 website, so you immediately know where you went wrong and can get partial credit for correcting your mistakes. Sometimes chem 1030 and chem 1031 don't match up. Watch the calculation videos online and you should be fine.

Steve Swann aka The Legend. The only impact he will make on you will be in his pre-lab hallway speeches. Also, he takes forever to get your final grade in but it makes sense considering the amount of students he has.

He teaches every intro chem lab. Swann is hilarious without knowing it. He is very organized, but the TAs run all of the labs and he just pops in sometimes. He is passionate about closed-toe shoes and his 80s-esque powerpoints. He seems like a nice man though- pretty good considering he's in charge of 500+ freshmen. Check his reddit-it's great.

Steve Swann is a strange guy but very nice. It is easy to understand what is asked of you and prepares you well for the lab. Canvas quizzes are hard, but they aren't worth a huge percentage of your grade. Chem21 can be annoying at times, but it's way better than a written lab report. Make sure you wear your goggles and aprons at all times!!

Hard 5 question canvas quizzes. CHEM21 Report system is difficult to understand. "Apron and goggles on for the duration!"

If you show up with knowledge of the lab and do the lab report afterwards, you'll be fine. The only thing I really like about him is that no matter when you email him he'll get back to you right away.

As far as I can tell, Canvas quizzes don't affect anything. The most important part of grading is the lab reports and final. If you want to do well on the final know how to do all lab calculations. Mr. Swann is NOT helpful. I witnessed him yelling at a student and make her cry during the semester for trying to get help from him for a lab. Good luck

Swann.. the man.. the myth.. the legend.. 1031 was a pretty easy class and he's a pretty nice guy if you talk to him. He's a stickler about closed toed shoes and "goggles and aprons on for the duration." Go to lab, do the reports, & put your calculations in your lab manual, not just on chem21.. it helps on the final. No reason to have below a B.

Very easy to understand. He always gives a short lecture before lab, and then he does a slideshow before you actually begin lab. People often ignore these, and that is why they do poorly on the lab write-ups. Easy A if you pay attention.

He is pretty unclear about stuff when he talks in the hallway before your lab. I didn't know about the canvas quizzes until we had already had about 7 of them. And I missed the final because he was unclear about the deadline, however he did let me make it up. His PPs for how to do the labs are really nice though.

The Swannster is a strange creature. Didn't see much of him all semester except for prelab announcements, class was actually run by TAs so hope you get brilliant ones. Canvas quizes were stupid, don't worry if you don't do well on them, no one does. Quick to reply to emails about questions/concerns. Take the final with a group, it's brutal.

The third most important man to Auburn behind Bo and Cam, he is a legend. Swann has enthusiasm that none can surpass and believes in closed-toe shoes and loves it. More seriously do your lab reports and take the lab with a group or somebody that has already taken it. Write your procedure every week. The quizzes are hard but don't count for much.

Canvas quizzes are hard; I failed almost all of them but still got an A in the class. Take the final with a group or you might fail it, to be honest. Labs are not hard and usually only take 1.5 hours or less. Swann is a cool guy and Im grateful he gave me an A.
