She's a sweet person, but not a great professor. The course was poorly organized, with no grades posted whatsoever, inconsistent participation assignments, and unhelpful groupwork. Too much material was thrown at us with no indication of what information should be prioritized. Material is outdated as well.

I gotta say, her class was no joke. Her lectures are pretty dense and she can include obscure details from her lectures and the book in her exams. However, she does prepare you for the real world and gets you engaged with the material. If you enjoy the material, definitely take her class! If you're looking to finish a prereq, take someone else.

I was borderline failing the class, and I talked her. She gave me an extra credit assignment to put me above passing. I ended up doing pass/fail, but nevertheless, she was helpful. Exam are extremely wordy. You have to cover a lot of materials and all her slides/textbook chapters. Not to mention you must attend every lecture.

Dr. Godfrey is a very good professor that tries to teach concepts and not spoon feed you. She also tries to relate everything you do to real life. It is very possible to get an A in her class. She offers lots of review sessions and she is always willing to help. If you study her power points and text book there is no doubt that you will do well.

I liked Dr. Godfrey. She was very nice and was quite personable. I studied her notes and the book and did well in the class. I will say that some of her exam questions were worded in a difficult manner, but overall I would recommend her. I'm kind of surprised at the negative comments here. I really liked the class.

Lecture is very confusing and you must attend because of particpation points. A lot of work is required to do well, but it is possible. Do a lot of problems, read the book, and focus on what is given in recitation as a guide for the exams.

The WORST teacher ever. Had her for micro and def wouldnt recommend her. If you ask a question expect to be more confused after she answers. She cant seem to understand why test scores are SOOO low. Very hard to make yourself go to her class but the participation points are your last hope of passing! AVOID this class

Godfrey would never respond to emails, and her exams were completely impossible. Attend ever lecture for participation points. Ended up failing almost 30% of the class (C- and below, but in Pitt terms, C- = retake the class). Perhaps the worst professor I have ever had.

DO NOT TAKE HER! She is the single worst professor I have ever had so far (even worst than Newman) and that's saying alot. She doesn't explain ANYTHING. Going to office hours is pointless, or even asking questions during lecture. If she is your only choice of professor: 1. Attend all lectures ( participation points) 2. READ THE BOOK

This is not difficult material, and yet a class average will be a low D with no A's for the exams. Can't answer questions posed in lecture or office hours. Rude, evasive in explaining the curve, and blames poor results on the student. Avoid her like bubonic plague.

This class should not have been difficult, but she made it unbearable. Her answers to questions regarding grading are cryptic. Her complete lack of ability to teach reflects poorly on the biology department and Pitt in general. This is the only professor I have ever had that made me sincerely question why I am paying for an education.

She Can't teach. Her lectures are boring, and really, the only people who know what they're talking about are the TAs. She teaches one thing and tests another, you basically have to teach yourself genetics

Believe everything that's been said here, the lecture's are confusing, and she rambles in most cases about stuff seemingly irrelevant. Read the book, but the tests are still very difficult, its impossible to gage what she wants.

Believe these reviews. Godfrey is a lovely woman, but she's terrible at her job. Lectures are unorganized, incredibly monotonous, and uninteresting. Fortunately, the TA cared enough to work with me, and I got an A. Pitt seriously needs to reconsider Godfrey's position here.

The difficulty of her classes come not from the material at hand but rather from superficial level at which classes are taught. It is hard to know what constitutes a good answer as the criteria constantly change. She is nice one-on-one, however, no great contribution to your education will be gained by taking one of her classes.

Exams aren't too bad. If you get 65% minimum of the points in the class you pass with at least a C. This is not hard. Participation points are counted, so attend class and rec. Don't expect to get any of the assignments back in a reasonable amount of time. Definitely buy the book and read it, helps supplement choppy lectures. Nice prof

Dr. Godfrey is an amazing and intelligent woman. Though the content may be complicated, Dr. Godfrey is always willing to answer any questions. Go to her office hours! The advice she gave me was priceless. She is well-connected and knowledgable. Read the important sections of the textbook and review the problem sets, you will do fine on the exams.

Though her tests are not extremely difficult, she always has questions that aren't clear. Her lectures are extremely boring and disorganized, but you have to attend them for participation points. The textbook is also wordy and annoying. If you really want to learn genetics, don't take it from Godfrey
