Comment:

Only got a C+ because I did not keep up with online assignments. Did not like Sylvie last term when subbed for Matt Luke for two weeks. Called me out, rushed through class and did not really tolerate any questions. But I had to take her this term and glad I got a perspective change. She's very eager to help and be available. Just high expectations.

Comment:

Obviously very knowledgeable about the language, but she should NOT be teaching it. She takes all the fun out of learning a new language. Ridiculously high expectations for first-time learners, massive amounts of homework, and she’s rude to you if you have a question. One of the worst teachers I’ve ever had. She ruined Spanish for me!

I am a consistent student, study hard, pay attention, always attend class, participate and so on, she almost made me cry 2 times she was so rude about me doing something wrong. She is nice to those who are already know the language but just rude to those who are having a hard time. No compassion. she should be a drill sergeant!

Passionate, knowledgable teacher. Expects you to do your work. People who give bad rating are usually slackers, negative, lazy students. I learned a TON in her class, and I am staying with her all the way through 103. Do your homework and apply yourself, and you'll be fine.

I loved Spanish before I took 203 with her. She is beyond rude. I study, do my homework, come to class and participate. But that is not enough for her. You have to basically be fluent for her to be nice. She is cold and critical. I will never take her again!

She is a great teacher, very passionate. She has an east-coast aggressive feel to her personality which is not for everyone, but I liked her. I learned a lot more in her class than I did in other teacher's classes using the same materials. Definitely a lot of HW though! It's a 5 cred course so expect to do a lot of work.

We started a new program for the 200's this year. It was confusing for everyone including the teachers. She expected you to do the online assignments without error, even though she didn't know what they were. she also expects that everyone can learn a language as easily as she learned 3. I dont mind hard, but she is very difficult and non flexible.

Seems to be overly aggressive with some students. The phrase "I feel intimidated" has been repeated often by several classmates. You'll learn in her class, if your skin is thick enough.

This is not a class that one can "slide" through. Sylvie is an excellent instructor and is very thorough when explaining concepts. She teaches at a University level in a community college. She is demanding but only to push you to learn more. I came out learning more in her class than I expected. Great class.

Comment:

I've had Sylvie for several terms. If you want an easy, non-confrontational teacher, I would suggest Matt Luke instead. If you want a teacher who expects you to apply yourself and know the material, I would recommend Sylvie. She's highly competent and a very capable teacher. I've really enjoyed her, but she's not for everyone.

Sylvie is a really good spanish teacher. Her classes are a bit more challenging than those of other teachers, but her students end up learning more. She doesn't hesitate to correct her students, and to some people can come off as ****y, but she is really very nice and very knowledgable. She makes us laugh too.

Professor florendo is a NICE person but believes too strongly in LCC's confusing spanish format. She is usually not clear on homework assignments and expects you to go above and beyond to get an A on your weekly tarea(summary of what you did that week). She gives an excessive ammount of homework which tends to be very lengthy.
