Comment:

Took three classes with Varner and enjoyed his teaching style. He's passionate about the Bible and Israel. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Presents material well. Fair grader. Classes are not hard and you learn a lot. I would have liked to take more classes with him. He genuinely loves his job!

Comment:

Varner's Old Testament Survey classes are very good. Homework is Scripture reading, worksheets from a book by Larry Helyer, and a 10-page book report. Don't procrastinate on any of it and you'll be fine. He gives you a notepacket to study from and offers extra credit on his (multiple-choice) exams. I love being in his class!! Varner is awesome. :)

Varner is a lot of fun. He tells cool stories that explain the Bible stuff vividly (even sometimes actint stuff out in class). The hardest part is writing a 10-page report on HIS book. Do the readings & worksheets, and use the exam study guides (check the course home page for them, he doesn't always tell you they're there) and you'll do fine.

WOW,He was the BEST at keeping the classroom awake! There is no way you can sleep through his lectures! You gotta be listening! He has PROFOUND teaching! His delivery of the message is excellent, comprehensible! You just have to be a good listener! He is a Masterpiece!

Varner is funny and a nice guy and doesn't give too much homework, but don't take his OT II class expecting to learn anything. You learn more about his life, wife, and IBEX than about the Bible. And his final exam is ridiculous.

Dr. Varner was one of the few profs I enjoyed at TMC. I didn't see eye-to-eye with all of his views but he was a good teacher and gave great lectures. He also added good humore every now and then.
