Comment:

This class was difficult because the homework matched up with the online textbook but Ortega used his own notes during class so the lecture did not always go along with the homework. It was tough to complete the homework at times. And the homework did not line up with exams because he created the exams from the notes. Study the notes for the exams!

Super intelligent professor! If you attend class and pay attention you will have no issues. Holds office hours and prepares solid for tests. 4 total exams and lots of practice. Connect homework had unlimited check my work so you could try until you understood. He is also funny and a very nice guy.

As long as you do the assigned homework, you won't want to miss class. Lectures are never boring. He is explicit about what to expect on the exam, so students tend to do better in his classes. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

Comment:

Took this as a summer class and expected it to be way harder. Ortega was amazing with responding to emails and was even flexible with exam dates as I went on vacation during the class session. Makes you work for the A and there was quite a bit of homework which was to be expected for a condensed summer class schedule, but it was definitely doable.

His lectures are boring. He makes the material a lot more difficult than it really is and goes off on unrelated tangents. Exams are 80% of your grade. Good luck.

This professor says that he is going to be very straight forward but the exams are significantly harder then the homework. The exams are all solving huge math problems. He rambles on about the most random stuff and gets off track. He once told a student its dumb and a waste of time to ask questions. Don't take him.

Hardest class i've ever taken. He says he wont try to confuse you on tests but he definitely does. I'm a straight A student and I almost got a C in this class even though I studied more for this class than I ever have for a class before. Very nice guy but I genuinely think he likes to see students struggle and fail. Would not take him again

His lectures are fun to listen to, he gets off track often but tells good stories. Reading the notes he gives is a great way to study. Homework isnt difficult. His tests are really tough, but do able. One paper, which is just short answer problems, not even a paper. Study for his tests!! They are tough questions

Meh. He was an okay professor. I've had better and I've had worse. He knows his stuff his lectures just get boring but he gets off topic but sometimes he's just annoying.

Tests are pretty much your grade, they are also very long and hard. Plus, tests are multiple choice so even if you are doing the formula right you only get credit for the answer. He sometimes goes off on talking about random things and always uses the whole class period. Must read chapter notes and all practice problems!

Ortega is one of those unforgettable professors. There's a sense community & belonging in his classroom. Hes enthusiastic, compassionate, and probably the most approachable professor there is. Yes, he does have countless anecdotes, current events, and insight to share but those are some of the things that actually make classes worth attending.

honestly, he is a good professor, he is very clear, he tells you what to read, what to do, and what to know for the exam. yes he talks a lot, but it is not boring. you really want a professor who only reads his notes in class? he is helpful outside of the class too. one thing i like him the most is he wants you to do good in his class.

Ortega was a good teacher, I took him for Managerial Accounting. He provides class notes which is what he tests on. If you do all the assigned problems and do some minor studying you should get an A. He gives a curve on almost every test. Great professor!

I'm glad I will never have to take him again. He says he only cares about the top accounting students and it's true. I learned NOTHING in this class. He never had clear answers on anything. It was all a bunch of lists to memorize. If you try to talk to him outside of class you will never get a word in edgewise.
