Comment:

With no background jazz knowledge, I found this class very difficult but jazz majors seemed to get through it alright. The tests are pretty hard (even the jazz majors struggled on the first one) but Al will go out of his way to help you and make sure you do well. I'm not sure I've ever seen another prof care about his students so much.

Al is a laid back guy and a great musician. Take this course. It's time consuming to listen to all of the material, but if you're interested in playing jazz, it's extremely important, and rewarding. I skipped a lot of lectures and still managed to get an A, so chances are, if you attend all the lectures and do all the listening, you will get an A+.
