Amazing. The women is a saint. not only did I learn ALOT, but I looked forward to every class... I've never met a more dedicated and passionate professor. She is the SWEETEST woman and is willing to work with you on all accounts. Loved her!!! I wish she taught more classes!

i had her in the fall semester, and i can definitely say that hers was my favorite class. she taught us little details to make our drawings much better, which a lot of the time i didn't even think to do. also, all the course work is online and she's really nice about it when you ask her for help about something.

i loved having prof. toonkel as a teacher. she tried to make the class as enjoyable as possible by letting us adapt the projects to our own interests. if you spend a lot of time and effort on your work, it will come out great. she even hangs shows of our work, which is very rewarding to see, even though i am not an art major.

Prof. Toonkel puts a lot of effort into teaching each class I benefited from her breaking down the different techniques of drawing into doable steps. So that I enjoyed the work that I was able to create which was beyond my greatest expectations as I am not an Art Major. She was very supportive & available for extra help and stayed late to help me.

Prof Toonkel is really great. I learned so much from her. She really knows about art and making a drawing look like it has real depth. She shows you all these drawing tips and makes drawing easy to understand. Her projects are fun. Spend time doing them they will turn out looking really good. Better than you ever thought that you could draw before.

I have never had a teacher so dedicated to her students. She really puts her heart and soul into her work and she gave me a new appreciation of art that I didn't have so much before. I admire her unabashed love of what she does and how proud she is of her students when she sees our progress. She is a wonderful professor.

Arlene is a great teacher. She really helped me understand the material and make progress with my drawing. Make sure you spend time doing the homework and listen to her guidelines, and you will create work that you will be proud of. She really seems to care about her students. Arelene, is a very good professor. She cares about her students and works very hard to help them with their projects. Arelene stays after class to ensure that everybody gets the time they deserve. I had her for art 101 this semester and I think she really helped me improve. She gave us lots of examples and guidelines so that we were able to remember to include everything that we needed. The projects she gives are pretty fun and as long as you try and listen to all the suggestions she gives you to improve, you should do really well.

design&drawing- IS very scatterbrained. Doesn't know how to keep herlife from interfering w/ class. We all have a lot going on but that's no excuse. She also told us to come on here and give her good reviews b/c no one was registering for her classes and she was hurt by the ones she read. Sweet nice lady, just can be frustrating. Arlene is a wonderful person, I graduated in 2004 and I still think about her often, she is the reason i became an art teacher. She was the only teacher whom I felt was really there for me and not a paycheck. I disagree with all the other comments I don't think she's scatterbrained, she's a single mother who has a lot going on...she's unique.

STAY AWAY - terrible teacher, useless, basically you have to teach yourself. she DISCRIMINATES! from the first day of class, she chooses students she likes and dislikes and makes it obvious in class who she favors and who she does not. choose someone else or be prepared to be BORED for the entire class and walk away with learning hardly anything.

i would take her again, she was easy and loved your work if you loved it. If you hang up your art and say "I hate this" then so will she, she grades your work based on how much time you gave it, she can tell, so its not her picking favorites, its the same people giving their work time every week.

VERY unfair grader-takes hw&lays it out on table&compares to others-will only give out a certain #of A's even if they are all good-if your in a class w/ all art majors youre going to get a significantlly lower grade than if you handed the SAME project in a class with no art majors<-WRONG!our grade should be based on our individual work NOT others!
