If you have the opportunity to take a class with her, just take her! She is extremely helpful and has flexible office hours. Since it's an English class, expect to read a fair amount. She does give quizzes that are easy if you read. Use the writing center + go see her before a paper's due! I could've gotten the A if I sought out a little more help.

British Novel-Incredibly challenging and demanding instructor. However, she is always willing to help students do the best they can.Very friendly and extermely willing to meet w/students or go over drafts. An intense amount of reading and writing is required and you will be forced to think on a new level.Take her if you want to learn!

response papers seemed pointless. the topics often had no relevance to anything read or discussed in class. it is a very frustrating class. either she likes your style of writng or she hates it and if she hates it...watch out!

An excellent course, and superbly conducted. As someone else has pointed out, Dr. Callanan is 'tough' on your work for your own good. She really pushes you to achieve your best, is extremely helpful in providing suggestions for improvement to ensure that you do your best. She is perhaps one of the most supportive professors in the department. She is a wonderful model for future professors -- her fairness, her expertise, her organization, and her enthusiasm for the period itself is really inspiring.

She was a great prof. I was uneasy with writing about literature before having her. Her class was a lot of work, but I learned a lot
