Comment:

He focuses a lot on readings, reflections, and papers, but it gets you thinking about China and politics in real life rather than just in the classroom. He is very forgiving and wants you to do well. He'll offer extra help if you did not do as well as he knew you could. Would recommend!

Comment:

Dr. McCormick is awesome! I have taken him for 2 different courses, and he was fantastic both times. He is so knowledgable, helpful, understanding, and will work with students to figure something out if there's a problem. There are readings and a response essay (2 pgs) every week, a midterm and a final essay (5 pgs each), and a term paper (12 pgs).

Loved Dr. McCormick. He is so passionate about what he teaches and he truly was inspirational for me as a PoliSci major. The class was great and Dr. McCormick was great.

He's a good professor. The reading papers over the semester were hard b/c 50 page readings needed to be summarized/reflected on in under 2 pages. I never got above B- on one, but there's only 7. Attendance not taken, he writes unorganized for lectures on the board so it's hard to follow. This class made me realize I'm not a PoliSci major!

He's a cool guy and pretty funny, but the lectures can be boring. I've zoned out in class a lot. But its not all bad and the class is pretty easy. There were some interesting bits too. I expected more from this class but it wasn't terrible.

While the class itself isn't that hard, it's just kind of boring. Professor McCormick seems like a nice guy, but he is an average teacher. I wouldn't recommend taking his class if you have to, but it's not the worst thing in the world.

Comment:

Very very knowledgeable when it comes to Asia. He is a very writing oriented professor, but he will work very hard to help you develop your writing skills. I would highly recommend him For PoliSci majors. Very helpful in his office hours if you have a question. There is no textbook, just pdf readings each week. Expect to spend a lot on printing.

Great teacher who really gets the student interested in the subject. However, if you are not a polisci student, beware that you may need to work extra hard. He loves class participation so do the readings(which is sometimes A LOT), he doesn't take attendance, and if you go in for help, he's very helpful. I highly recommend him for polisci majors

Just absolutely beneath contempt as a professor and a person. Wretched communication skills, excessive use of the word "lovely", obnoxious, biting, and sarcastic. A classic MU "I'm here to write, and teaching is just something they make me do" caliber of professor.
