WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! I regret taking him. We learned nothing!! All he talked about was his life and how EVERYTHING refers back to appalachia or west virginia!! never taught us anything just had us read the book I don't learn that way!! I thought this would be like an English class, but overwhelmingly disappointed. NEVER EVER TAKE HIM!!!!!!

Take at your own risk!!! This semester, our class as a whole has learned NOTHING. Unless of course it is details about Allen's life&accomplishments then we could all write a book. His syllabus is a book&it changes almost every class period, SO BEWARE! His tests are story books&cover content he hasn't taught in class. Read the reviews for this class

Professor is funny & great, but you want learn anything in this class. He doesn't teach but tells you stories about himself. Exams are ridiculous. Papers due every week. You are not allowed to choose your own topic. Even if you know how to write a paper, take another professor. Your knowledge of writing will not help you in this class.

WARNING!! Do Not Take History 250 with Bernard Allen!!! You will not learn anything about historical research methods & writing. All his lectures are centered around his personal accomplishments & life. His tests aren't much better.. they are in "story" format & cover material he hasn't even mentioned in class.

Great teacher, very enthusiastic about the class. Tests are fill-in the blank style (key names/terms) and the your classmates make up the quiz questions from the notes. One paper: your personal "code of ethics" due at end of semester. Make sure you attend class, take detailed notes, & read the cases in the textbook, and you'll get an A.

Great teacher. Keeps you the whole time but you actually learn a lot. Likes to tell stories. random but funny outbursts. Tests are in a weird story format that you fill in the blanks. There is one paper at the end but it is easy. Takes of for ANY grammar mistakes. Take very good notes and read the cases at the end of the chapters. Great teacher!

great teacher. great sense of humor. tests can be difficult, so studying is a MUST. dresses up and tells great stories. coolest older man ever! has one of the best grading scales. you're graded using points, meaning your grade can NEVER decrease; only increase, so the more effort, the better. if you apply yourself, you cnt fail. take him!

Dr. Bernie is the best, so far the best professor I've had at Coastal! Make sure you take notes and study them for the tests but he makes class so much fun and you'll always get a good laugh. Take him!

I took him for British History, and it was my first upper level course. This guy is so cool! He dresses up sometimes, and he tells awesome stories. His tests come straight from his lectures, not from reading. Reading before is helpful but not necessary, I recommend this man hihgly and he is probably the best hist. prof at CCU. THE BEST! take notes!

Hands down, best teacher I've had yet. He makes class interesting, although you take notes, his stories are the best, and the way he tells them are so fun, even brings different outfits to make his stories better! Take him, you'll love it, history major or not.

I loved this man's class. I hated history before but I actually looked forward to attending his class and listening to him talk and tell stories. His tests can be pretty difficult but if you just take good notes you will be fine. Only downside is he is very serious about time, he starts right on time and never once finishes a minute early.

Class is agonizingly boring. Write down whatever he says, becuase it could be on the test. Talks more with his hands than his mouth. It is an extremely bad habit of his, and it is very distracting. His hands are constantly moving no matter what he says. Also has odd speech habits that can be distracting. Might get a decent grade but not worth it

Incredible teacher, unmatched by any other I took this semester. In his class, all you do is take notes from what he says non-stop but it is so much fun to listen to this guy that you never notice. Show up to class and you'll laugh a couple times and easily pass the course.

I've taken him twice now, and he's an awesome professor. You almost have to try to fail his class. Personally I find history interesting anyway (I'm a history major) but I've learned a lot of really cool random facts from him that I probably would never have known otherwise. If you get the chance to take him, you should.
