He assumes, that you know how to write all the stories he wants you to write. He givers you feedback, but he doesn't teach you how to fix the mistakes, all he does is say "tell them it was said"

He can come off as arrogant BUT he has been all over the east coast for jobs and teaching, so he's resourceful. Do the readings--he gives pop quizzes. Keep all your assignments until the end of the semester. He takes off points for the silliest things. Write everything EXACTLY as he tells you to and utilize the req. books. It's his way or no way.

Marshall University is lucky to have Professor Morris. Are his classes tough? Yes. But you definitely learn a lot. I feel like most people who left bad comments about him are mad at how hard he makes you work for your grade. The man did work for the NY Times, so I'm going to take all the journalism advice he wants to give me.

I was taught by Prof. Morris at Southwest Texas State University now called Texas State University. He was the most kind and fair Professor I have ever had. He is tough but I remember everything he taught me. He is also kind and generous with his time if you are willing to put in the work so is he.

It is true that Prof.Morris can be very vague and confusing at times but if you attend class and try to do the work you will pass. I made 70's on all the papers and and average 60-69 out of 100 on exams. I was a bad test taker but I never gave up in the class and came out with a C because I tried. Don't give up on him so soon he is misunderstood.

Prof Morris is a nice man, but shouldn't be teaching. He picks favorites and is completely unfair in his grading. I was .05 away from a B in the class and he wouldn't give it to me. Avoid taking him if possible! If you have to take him save all of your assignments on a flash drive, he lost like 4 of my assignments!

i've had him for three classes. he picks favorites and will tell you your wrong, even if you're right and will argue with you about it. occasionally you'll catch him on a nice day, but they're rare. he's no help if you go to him on his office hours and if you go to him to discuss your grade he will say, "what's a few points between friends?"

Absolutely one of the best professors at marshall. He teaches you how journalism works in the real world, not how it is "supposed to be" in a textbook. He is tough on student work, but his knowledge is worht the price!

He's arrogant, rude, and thinks he's God's gift to journalism. Always thinks he's right even if he's not. Picks favorites and they know who they are. I'm changing my major because of him. If you're thinking of taking him, reconsider, and if you are taking him, I'm sorry and good luck to you. You're gonna need it. This guy seriously needs fired.

Burnis is an overall good teacher. Do the stories that he wants you to do, and there will be no problem. Be careful what beat you are on, since he is more partial to some than others.

Get ready to be stressed out. His lectures and assignments are confusing. If you speak up against him in class you are liable to fail. If you agree with everything he says, shower him with compliments and happen to like sports, then you won't have a problem passing any of his classes. He likes it when people write about non-profit organizations.

Great teacher. He knows what he's talking about. Do visit him and talk to him outside of class about your articles. Talk with him in class as well. If you try that much and turn in your work, you'll do great.

Morris cannot teach. He seems like a nice person to know, but as for as teaching, he is not effective, is not clear and does not like to be proven wrong or argued with. As stated in other comments, if he likes you, you are a little better off than if he doesn't. If possible, avoid taking him, if it is not, I'm sorry.

Although I don't give Prof. Morris a good rating, it doesn't honestly reflect how I feel about him. I like Morris, I find him to be extremely personable...but thats only if he likes you. If he doesn't like you, you're screwed. I don't think he grades fair, I don't think he's clear on assigments, but I also don't think he's that hard.

Burnis is ok. Heavy work load and don't expect to get your grades back soon. If he likes you, you're in. If not, sorry. Not the most fair professor at MU but he knows what he is talking about when it comes to writing. The most work experience of anyone in the J-school.

Morris is an unusal character. The entire "Cases" class revolved around a case study and we never even got our papers back. When we went to his office at the end of the semester to get them, he STILL hadn't graded them. Fishy? I think so. He GIVES grades-and that, my friends, is the bottom line. Steer clear!
