Professor Stanbury was the worst teacher at auburn I've had. Lectures didn't pertain to exams, and aleks had a slight resemblance to exams. You'll be learning chem one on your own, and not because of anything he teaches. I would recommend getting a better teacher to start your chemistry with.

I took Stanbury for general chemistry 1 and would definitely take his class again! He is a good at lecturing and cracks a few jokes here and there so the lectures are interesting. He also includes demonstrations during class which are interesting. Study the sections of the textbook he tells you to study during class, and practice problems he gives!

Dr. Stanbury was my worst teacher at Auburn, and I've liked every other teacher I've had so far.

Gives no homework other than ALEKS. Tests are your grade. Open ended tests, no multiple choice. Doesn't do many in-class examples. You learn most application techniques from ALEKS so DO NOT slack on that. Makes really corny jokes, kept me laughing all semester, even through my tears.

Stanbury is an interesting man and he is obviously very knowledgeable in what he teaches, but he zooms through material and doesn't give any direction as far as what you need to study for tests. However, as long as you keep up with Aleks and read the book you should be fine. He also curves tests pretty nicely.

Dr. Stanbury is exactly what you would expect an Auburn chemistry professor to be--smart beyond belief and helpful. He is not the easiest teacher, but his knowledge on the subject made me interested. He does assign online homework for a grade, and gives 4 problem-based tests. I went to see him a few times and he was always willing to help. Take him

Stanbury teaches chemistry in a very refreshing way that is easy to understand. He will sometimes put stuff not covered in lectures on a test but always informs you that it will be on the test. He gives very helpful scales on the test is total rad.

Dr. Stanbury is great professor and makes the course material very interesting rather than just telling you the principles. He explains every subject in great detail. His tests are just like the examples he does in class but with more of a twist. Plus he gives a good curve on the tests.

He's the funniest professor I have this semester, and that helps me pay a lot more attention during class. The only homework he gives is on ALEKS, and doing the ALEKS homework helps a lot with the tests. Just pay attention in class and do your homework and you'll pass.

He's a pretty good professor, despite his reading from his notes for most of the material. There is at least one good joke in each class, but plenty of quarks to keep your attention. There is homework about once a weak due online. If you can get away with fundamentals of chemistry it might be worth it, but if you can handle math then its not bad.

He is a very helpful professor. He is a brilliant man, and a very good teacher. His tests can be tough at times, but he always gives a massive scale that usually raises your score a whole letter grade. I would highly recommend him.

I had him for general and Inorganic, and I'm tired of people blaming him for not handing out easy As. He's one of the smartest people you will ever have the chance to learn from(he's internationally respected),so take the class seriously. If you do poorly in a Stanbury lecture it is because you are lazy and willfully ignorant, not because of him.

Stanbury was a great teacher! His tests are very easy and he adds a HUGE curve, used a formula. People that got uncurved C would get a B or A, people with As, just got As. If you go to his office, he explains everything in great detail. A little fast paced, but very good. His advanced classes are very hard though.

Not a terrible teacher but mostly have to read the book to understand completely what he's saying. Do the homework! Other than that tests are pretty easy and always a big curve

His class was brutal to my GPA. It's not that he's incredibly hard, he just requires his students to do mostly independent learning. Only bits and pieces of his notes are necessary or useful. Basically, an immense prior knowledge of the material, and a group study session before every test will keep you affloat in this class.

Stanbury is very unclear when he teaches. Chemistry is a difficult subject, and he was no help to me. He often couldn't answer questions asked in class and did very few examples of problems like those that would be on the tests. I used my high school chemistry notebook to study for most tests. He does grade fair though.

People here are complaining about the tests being "hard." THEY AREN'T HARD FOR THE SUBJECT!! Chemistry itself isn't easy, but Stanbury's tests are basically as easy as possible given the course material. Quit your ****ing you dumbasses. Any other chemistry class would be just as hard if not harder. My highschool chem class was worse.

Not a bad teacher. He's very clear. Make sure you do the homework!!! I didn't do any of them and survived only on day-before-test all-nighters. Pulled out with a C. His notes are extremely useful and applies directly to tests. Has awesome curves. I made a 22 and got a 54! Don't always expect a high curve though!
