Comment:
very unclear with project outlines, did not address the reading for many of the class periods, even though we were expected to read up to 100 pages for each class. Way too high of expectations for students given the time he gave for projects and the fact that we had other classes to complete work for.

Dr. Gordon will engage you and demand that you engage him and your peers. Two of the best courses I have ever taken have been taught by him. I strongly recommend this course. You will need to read a lot and if you aren't willing to do that the class is less impactful, but he is such a great orator that his lectures alone would justify enrollment.

He's awesome. At first he can be a little intimidating--and certainly one of the smartest people that I've ever met--but also incredibly goofy. Sometimes his instructions can be confusing, and he doesn't answer his email so ask questions in class. Going in to see him during his office hours is a must. He's a professor worth getting to know.

Dextor Gordon is a great professor. He may seem intimidating at first, however he is extremely helpful and always willing to meet with students during his office hours. He knows his material very well, and I would not recommend coming to class without having read assigned work. He isn't a hard grader if you follow directions and try.

Ive had Gordon for two semesters now, and he is a wonderful teacher. Don't waste his time by coming unprepared and realize that his forte's are his lectures on race and media.

CORRECTED RATING: Professor Gordon knows his information. However, he rarely checks his email. His assignments are almost all group projects. His instructions in general are not that clear. However, he is not as hard of a grader as everyone thinks. Just make sure you don't get points knocked off for formatting errors in papers.

I had professor Gordon in his first semester at UPS. The class was supposed to be Public Speaking, but he used the entire semester as a soapbox to lecture our class on racism, oh and we made a few speeches on days that he ran out of things to say about racism.

the class itself forces you to learn how to write rhetoric and the debate. His lectures were interesting, but i felt i would have gotten the same out of the class even if i didn't acutally attend. He's really accesable for talking about papers during office hours, not as hard of a grader as people make him out to be and knows his stuff.

Use the study sheet given for the midterm, I studied a lot and did really well. Be sure to read everything because we run out of time to do everything in class. He really likes to use power point presentations so make sure to take notes to help with the midterm. Two big group projects which are pretty interesting.

i felt he had a lot of helpful comments in terms of papers, etc. his lectures were extremely dull, but he definitely knows his stuff. he seems to try and be intimidating with his grades, but he's not actually that strict of a grader.

He is a nice guy... but I don't like his teaching style. He has expectations that feel ridiculous at times, is a pretty picky, tough grader, and can drone on at times.
