Awful. Castellano is a brilliant man, and a nice guy. That being said, the lectures are difficult to follow, the tests are dreadful, and the class average on tests are usually in the 40's. I think that says something about the instruction... My advice: do all practice problems, go to SI, don't underestimate the diffiulty of the course. Good luck!

I took Dr. Castellano at NC State and he says that he is going to curve, but don't trust him on that. I came out of the class knowing way less chemistry than I already did. Though he is receptive of students outside class, I would not recommend going to his office hours because that can confuse the student much more. Horrible class!!

A lot of the people who leave completely negative comments on here are the ones who have absolutely no idea what they're doing in class. Truth is, he's hard, and he's unhelpful, but he really does know his stuff. If you have any kind of dedication to the class you'll get a good grade. He curves big time.

He was terrible. He actually outright told us he didnt want to read our emails and simply deleted all of them. He starts a problem and then just works it out on the board not explaining why. I stopped going to lecture and did BETTER on the tests! Nevertheless, I failed but I firmly believe had I had anyone else for a professor, I would have passed.

I used to love chemistry until i had him, he make the whole subject dreadful! You have homework online which is very hard. His lectures are boring and his teaching style is to give a problem then an answer he does not explain it. Try to get a different teacher if you have this class.

I've had worse professors. Dr. C. is unreachable by email to students--don't even try to email him with questions; grades fairly though, and exams are 99% M.C. so that's nice as long as you know what you're doing. Just pay attention and do the eduspace problems and you should do fine in this class. (standard bell curve grading, just so you know)

Not a nice guy. He openly says his research comes before his students. Also has a tendency to talk down to students in his lectures. He does know what he's talking about, so if he didn't treat us like we're all retarded he would be good.

His online HW is Sweet! U get unlimited tries to get it right and u can get help from many places on campus, including Felix himslef. NE1 who thinks his HW method is bad just doent do their work. It is SOO simple! And it really boosts ur grade. If u get a chance to have him as a teacher TAKE HIM! Even if u have to wait a semester to get him:D

I REALLY thought his class was hard at first, but if you take advantage of his office hours, the TA's and study groups, its not hard at all. Don't be dumb-argue for your points, go get help, and it's important for him to get to know you. He seems like a nice guy overall.
