Comment:

Almost the entire class is group projects. He gives vague, hastily made instructions/rubrics for these projects, but then grades heavily on small specific details that were not mentioned previously. The class was only twice a week but he regularly cancelled class minutes beforehand and then tried to cram on days he did show up. DO. NOT. TAKE.

Comment:

Be ready for a good chunk of self-learning. His take-home labs are fun, but there was only 3 in my class. Do buy his textbook since most of his stuff comes from there. Lastly, be ready to get last minute homework, since he post the homework assignment the day before it due, most times, sometimes he posts it a few days in advance.

I gotta be honest. At first I did not like this guy because I have never learned how to access information. Later I realized that Dr. Selby was one of the best teachers on campus. He DOES not teach you everything which makes you look it up , thus you will truly learn it. His projects are extremely fun and makes you relate the info with the life.

This guy is awful. The fall semester, the lowest grade he GAVE was a B-. Spring semester, he completely changed his routine and basically you got stuck with whatever number he wrote on your paper, even if you were right and he marked you wrong. Also, his assignemts were ridiculous.

Very easy, gives a take home test which is all covered in hw questions. Gives tons of extra credit, its basically impossible not to due well, just make sure you go to class.

Comment:

Very good at explaining things and not getting off track on minute details. He did cancel a few classes, but it wasn't a big deal. I learned a lot and enjoyed his class, even though the take home final (which was a small design project) was a bit more work than anticipated. I would gladly take another class with him.

Comment:

Interesting, understanding, cool, and calm. Clarifies well, and unofficially allows you to race him in finishing the problem by him writing slowly and explaining things clearly. Tests were clear and concise with teachings.

Canceled about 10 classes without any prior notice due to chronic illness. Tests were so/so he's a tough grader any small mistakes will generally result in half credit on the question. Had heart complications the day of the final exam. It was then scheduled for the first week of the following semester. Not sure if he'll be teaching next semester

He really made us think outside the box in our projects. He just seemed to radiate knowledge whenever he walked in the room. dead ringer for morgan freeman, which is a huge compliment!!!!!!! He has an endless supply of experiences to share if you're willing to ask and listen. Loved this professor!!!!

His tests are exactly like the notes you take in class. His quizzes are difficult, but keep a lot of notes and understand your homework and you'll be fine. Fluids is a boring class and he knows it so he doesn't make you stay longer than you can stay awake for!

"3/19/09" should have switched to business a long time ago. Just finished his summer class,and I learned a lot. Yea he doesn't want to be there any more than you do, but when he's there, he teaches you what you need to know and his examples have the concepts needed for the quizzes/hw/tests. Don't call a professor stupid bcuz you failed. I got an A.

Quite possibly one of the laziest professors I have ever had. Rather than giving a lecture with sustenance I find myself taking quizzes that do little to increase my knowledge. This is the only professor at ODU that teaches this course, so you are stuck with him. I hope that the university fires him and finds someone who prides their profession.

Most incompetent engineering professor I have had within the whole engineering college. Cancelled classes without getting a sub. One class was held once a week and he canceled close to 1/3 of the semester without getting a sub. Needs to be fired. His presence makes the department rank go down.
